According to the Quests window in Act 3:
"Look for the Gidbinn in the Great Marsh."

Well, I've covered every piece of the area, killed all of the monsters and opened all of the chests (!!) and there's no Gidbinn.

If it's in one of those uberchests, the chests are AWOL unfortunately, so no Gidbinn.

Maybe the Quests window is misleading me? Is it found somewhere else?

The gidbinn really is in GreatMarsh, but I have heard that (and remembered occasions where) for some reason it won't spawn on the map every time, and you just need another game. I've never heard of an explanation for this, but I've done gidbinn quest recently by finding it in Great Marsh.

I've also seen maps where the gidbinn icon spawns twice on the minimap, but there's no little altar thingy for one of them. Odd stuff.

Alright. I will try again later. If that doesn't help, I will need to tell PlugY to randomize the map for the character again.

Check if it appeared in Flayer Jungle then. I know Soulmancer tried to change it to Great Marsh (a particularly pointless area in Vanilla), but things didn't go smoothly. Perhaps on the maps where it's not in GMarsh, it's still in Flayer.

It didn't show on the map. Perhaps a "piece" of the Great Marsh isn't called in the map generation; I may have to configure PlugY to re-randomize the map the next time I play my character.

You're confusing Gidbinn quest (Q3 I think) with Jade Statue quest (Q1). Gidbinn gets you a ring of nothingness and an A3 merc (back when merc's didn't carry across acts, this was a decent reward), while the Statue gets you 20 HP.

I found it on my Amazon, I was having trouble finding it with the Assassin I was using.

In "vanilla" LoD the "piece" I am referring to is the one that has an uberchest. In its place would be the Gidbinn.. and a nasty superunique.

The Gidbinn quest is Q2.. :) Q3 is the Flail Assembly quest.

I've just encountered this issue too. A3 NM. I cleared great marsh, then flayer jungle when i didn't find it. The flayer jungle had the gidbin icon on the map, but it was not visible otherwise. I remade and did the same, no luck so far. I also tried killing some stuff in spider forest/caverns but no heros dropped it there either.
