Image

I redesigned some of the items to make them easier to find in your inventory and also to make things a little cooler. In the image above you can see that your dwarf, raven and shock absorber are all easily visible from the rest of your rings which makes it easier to find them for boss battles.

You can run the adjustment locally and it won't cause any issues; I have been using these graphics for the past few weeks with no problems.

Download:
Multi-player zip file: http://blue.arimyth.com/blue-itempackFeb21.zip
Single player zip file: http://blue.arimyth.com/blue-itempacksoloMar28.zip

Items changed are:
All unique rings except for nagel & manald
All unique jewels
Most unique amulets
Elemental Set rings and amulet
Adament glyphs and hammers
Purifcation glyphs
Samhiem unique charms
Gheed's Charm
LOS Keys (color coded)
Sockets
Armors: Sacred, Ornate, Archon, Hellforge Plate, Adament Gloves & boots, Vampirebone gloves, Boneweave armor and boots, Aegis, Ward, Chaos Plate, Shadow Plate, 2 barb helms, a few paladin shields
Weapons: Zerker axe, ThunderMaul, Glorious Axe, Thresher, Giant Thresher, Ogre Axe,

Starstone, Moonstone & uber gems have also been corrected so they look the same in all difficulties.

Install Directions
To get it working, you need to:

1. Go to your DiabloII directory. For me, I have it installed in the root, so it is C:\Diablo II\ but it may be different on your computer.

2. Find the folder called "Data" in there and open it up. In that data folder is another folder called "Global" open that up and you should see a single folder in there called "Excel".

3. Create a new folder called "items".

4. Download the zip file in this post and extract it. In there you should see two types of files .dc6 and .txt. Put all the .dc6 files in the "items" folder and the .txt file in the "Excel" folder.

5. IMPORTANT - make sure you are NOT running Diablo2 when you are doing this. Exit out of the game and make all these changes.

I am going to be updating the uniq amulets, set rings and a few other things so keep an eye on this thread for updates.

Uninstall files:

If you have a problem with this pack, you can restore your version back to "normal" by deleting the Items folder and putting the txt files from the zip file below in to your Excel folder:

will this be mandatory, or will it be possible to not install this graphics pack and still play error free?

yep - this is entirely optional.

Yep - I custom built them using other aspects of in game graphics in order to maintain a "diablo" feel to them rather than importing from other games.

If there is no data folder, do i just create a new folder called Data and create two folders called excel and items in it?

The Data folder is part of the 1.21z update. If you don't have that folder, then you're still running 1.21.

Extract the contents of the 1.21z compressed file into your HU directory. As a bonus, the Data/Global/Excel folder contains text files readable in a spreadsheet program. Those text files contain all item mods, and a lot more.

make sure you have diablo closed when you move the txt file over.
the other thing to check is to be sure that there is an items folder and that you don't have a typo in the word "items"

if u are running it from data/global/excel folder remeber u need to put -direct -txt on ur shorcut target line "C:\Program Files\Diablo3\Diablo II.exe" -direct -txt -w should look something like that

I just downloaded the patch 1.21z but I noticed in my D2 folder for HU or even my regular D2 folder, there is no "Data" folder anywhere. Any solutions to this?

Ha, the BK rings look like real wedding rings. Good going. Good job. Would the shock rings not look right if you darkened the pallet on the metal part of the ring to make the yellow stand out on the gem?

Here was my version of the topaz based Shock Absorber. I didn't think it stood out in your inventory as clearly as the diamond based one did, so I went with diamond.

Is there anything that has to be in there if I create a new folder? Or do I just make the new "Data" folder and add the other folders needed and follow the rest of the steps?

I am a bit concerned if you don't already have a data folder. That seems like a case where you haven't installed the latest version of the mod and it might create problems on the realm.

HU1.21z_update is essentially just this data folder and the associated updates. Check this thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=596 for details on that.

Give it a go again and make sure you have the files in the right place and folders set up like the picture I attached

ahh - ya, you will need a shortcut that contains -direct -txt for this to work, which the HU.bat includes.

I have spotted a few issues with this item pack and will be uploading a new version over the weekend:

1. Nature's peace graphic isn't the graphic I wanted and looks like butt.
2. Wisp ring is looking wrong in A2
3. I have color coded adament glyphs/hammers to seperate them from their mith counterparts.
4. New graphics for the Sammy charms so you can spot the differences between Norm & NM.

If I REALLY get ambitious I might be able to get the set rings done, but I kinda doubt I will get to that because work has a laundry list of things they want done over the weekend too :(

What nature's was supposed to look like :

Looking forward to the updated item pack, great work.

Any ideas for ammys. Was thinking that would be an eventual cool item pack to have, to be able to distinguish from highlord's, atma's, etc.

Yep - it should. I do all my testing local, so it should just pull the graphics from that folder for you.

Glad you like it :)

eww! that sucks.

Couple questions:
1. are you using -direct -txt in your short cut?
2. it might be that a file got corrupted somehow. What I would do first is copy the txt and dc6 files from the zip file linked above in to your excel and items folders again and allow them to overwrite. Make sure you have diablo closed.
3. next step would be to reboot your computer, and then try step 3.
4. if all of that fails, I will post up a "uinstall" zip file which has the files back to normal.

Lemme know how it works out.

mario logged in and tested and it does the same to him aswell.

ok we sorted it now? by killing my necro must have reset it somehow as now it can be removed

BUT!!!!

almost straight away it happens again, now what we have done is kill my nec and drop the armor on the floor this time and picked it up with a empty char and destoryed the socked jewels in it and now it seems ok again.

so in all maybe a few more tests in single player or something concerning facets?

cheers

I have had the same thing happen before but when therewere no new graphics.

The problem was my IK maul I had on y a5 merc (with the full set) there were facets in it too. with 4 parts equipped i could hover over it but there would be no list of attributes. With the full set my game would crash. Im not sure what the problem was. I thought it was something to do with having lots of seperate stats on the weapon.

Guys, who has problems getting this patch work, rename your "Items" folder into "items". The first letter must be lowercase. Otherwise it wont work. ;) Blue have mistyped at the description on how to install this mod, but the screen shows it right. :D

Thanks for catching that, I have updated my post with the correction.

There is also a new version up that does:

1. elemental set rings & amulet
2. some unique amulets (all the high ones except familiars)
3. redesigned wirt's jewel because it was dorky before :P

I am luke warm on some of the unique amulets so they may get tweaked. Hard to get them exactly the way I want with the small size and constricting image palette. At least they are easily distinguishable now though.

Should be releasing a new one in a few days. I redesigned Zerker axes, glorious axes, thundermauls, Gheed's, Ada boots & gloves, and Achron plate. Going to bang through a few more items and give the ones I did some thought before putting it out. Zerker axe looks way cool though in my opinion:

2 questions:
Are you in charge of the mod?

I didn't get it right, is there going to be a new patch to include these new graphics?

Nope - Soulmancer runs the show around here.

I don't know for sure if he will include these images or not, but I would make a pretty comfortable guess that he will since stuff like this seems to work well with his overall vision for the mod.

Soulmancer allows a bit of freedom with client side edits. Blue is a well trusted fella that does some nice things for us both for patches and on top of them.

The new art stuff looks spiffy Blue.

any posibility of adding some D1 pics to D2 uniques or sets?... like the common rags pics for uniques leathers in D2 or regular plates from D1 (wich looks nice) for some uniques plates etc...
considering that D1 artwork was way better than D2

Sure - track me down the graphic files and I can work on incorporating them in if they seem appropriate. Really working to make sure they have the same look and feel of Diablo2 graphics though rather than some of the modified image graphics I have seen in other mods that just seem out of place.

Hey Blue,

I downloaded this item pack, and (initially following the full instructions) installed the 1.21z patch (which Soulmancer noted was for multiplayer only). Problem is, I am using the single player version. So all of a sudden I'm wondering why I can't cast town portals.

I then reinstalled the 1.21 solo edition from the .rar, and tried creating the Data, Excel and items folders myself. This still broke town portals though, and I feel like something else didn't work properly but I can't remember at the moment.

Do you know what files I need to extract JUST so the graphics work, that won't modify the way the single player runs such as drop frequency and town portals? I really liked the look of the items, and being able to tell hammers/sockets apart is a great feature.

As for you guys who had problems with the poison facet in your armor, there's another thread Blue started (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=933) that is trying to fix it, or at least find the source :-D.

problem is most likely the misc.txt file. Town portal books and scrolls are in there and I edited that file to make some of the items work. I bet that I can just compare my edited version to the single player misc.txt version and get it straightened out. That would allow me to create a special Single Player only version of the Item pack.

Thanks for the post, wouldn't have thought to start lookin for that otherwise. I will get the single player version up in a bit along with an updated version that has a few more items edited such as the Thresher graphic below:

That makes sense to me. I wasn't sure if the culprit was the dc6 files or the text files, and I wouldn't have any idea where to start looking for such an issue anyway :-)

Thanks for the quick reply, and I look forward to the update!

:D

New version posted. There is now a single player version that hopefully won't screw up single player features like town portals. Let me know if it does create a problem though.

Will be continuing to tweak things....

This new version of Feb 19, is this a cumulative update?
I'm seeing 4 txt files and 32 dc6 files in 19 feb edition, but 5 txt files and 82 dc6 files in the 4 feb edition.

edit: in the multiplayer version
edit2: I'm guessing it is, cause I got it working again by first extracting 4feb file, then extracting 19feb file overwriting duplicate files. After moving the files in appropriate dirs, I can see some of the stuff in my inventory again. Thanks for the enhancements to an already better game than the original ;)

Hey Blue,

Thanks for going through the trouble of creating a solo version.

Here's what happened for me:

-1.21 Solo version installed
-Extracted files to the right directories
-Shortcut has -direct -txt

Adamant hammers are invisible, and besides for that all the items look the same (unmodified, see screenshot). Town portals still work.

Image

Any ideas?

yeah, a good fix to that is equipping the modified items, not random normal class axes and armors.

All unique jewels
Most unique amulets

Adament glyphs and hammers

LOS Keys (color coded)
Sockets
Armors: Sacred, Ornate, Archon, Hellforge Plate, Adament Gloves & boots, Vampirebone gloves, Boneweave armor and boots, Aegis, Ward, Chaos Plate, Shadow Plate, 2 barb helms, a few paladin shields
Weapons: Zerker axe, ThunderMaul, Glorious Axe, Thresher, Giant Thresher, Ogre Axe,

No, RockFleece is not on that list. Neither death set or undead crown.

Make sure you have the directories right with "items" all in lower case. I know that caused some problems for some people. It would appear that the txt files are being read right, but the image files are not being referenced.

Reference this screenshot for info:

You know, it appears to me, and I may be wrong here, but my screenshot shows an INVISIBLE ADAMANT HAMMER, along with normally colored glyphs and quad socket. I took the screenshot in Norm, with a level 55 char equipped with Norm gear... /facepalm.

Blue, I'm almost positive I checked for the correct capitalization (having read the posts about people's setup issues) but I will try again and see what happens. Are there any other steps I should try? Re-extracting the .rar into my D2 directory, etc.

Edit:

Re-extracted the mod into my D2 directory, re-ran modsetup, then recreated the Data/Global/Excel and items directories. Extracted the solo edition - same results.

I then figured I'd try mixing the solo and multi versions. Since you said the misc.txt probably caused the town portal issue, I extracted ONLY the .dc6 files from the multi version into the items folder - hammers and unique armor/jewelry now work, while sockets and glyphs do not. See new screenshot:

Image

Hope that helps the diagnosis. With the solo version .txts, town portals still work. Are there any .txt files that I could use from multi version that are "safe" that may fix sockets and glyphs? Or is that, I suppose, part of the misc.txt?

Edit #2:

I have the Feb 4th version, which made the changes listed above. However, I went to do the same thing for my girlfriend (using the multi .dc6 files and the solo .txts) but now both versions are dated the 19th, and following the above process, she got my original results (invisible hammers, etc).

So what changed in both versions for the 19th that would cause this? Hmmm....

Tracked it down - I hadn't included everything in the Feb 19 build. The Feb 21 files should fix the issue. Thanks for the posts letting me know what was going on so I could get it fixed up.

You know, I forgot to mention the discrepancy in file sizes, there was a ~50kb difference between the 4th and the 19th. In any event, I installed the new version and things remain the same on the glyphs and sockets.

However, I'd bet I'm kinda in the minority as far as folks who play the solo edition, so I almost feel bad for posting about minor issues. Then again, it depends on your OCD level for making sure things work properly. In short, don't go out of your way to fix the problem if I'm the only person downloading the solo version :)

In the Feb 19 solo version, I had left out the file "invhmr2.dc6" which is why your ada hammers showed up blank. This file *should* now be in the Feb21 solo version and therefore when you put it in your items directory, it should all work.

Make sure you are doing the txt file swaps with D2 closed. Otherwise, I am puzzled why you would get invisible ada hammers with the Feb 21 version.

No worries - i am happy to try and track this down and get it fixed. Not only do I like getting things right, you are not alone in playing the solo version.

Currently, the only things not working are glyphs and sockets; they are still all the same shade of bone and metal :). The hammers and everything else (as best I can tell) are working properly.

The 21st version resulted in the last screenshot I posted. I went shopping at Larzuk and as you can see, the crafting glyphs match in color, and the quad socket is still white. I always make it a point to install the pack "fresh" - turn off the game, check task manager to see if the task is still running, empty the Excel and items folders, then re-extract the .zip file.

Having seen more of the items though, I can't wait to actually get my characters to hell (the guy I took the screenshot with is a test character). You put a lot of work in, they look awesome ;)

ok - quite possible I just didn't remember to change those in the single player version. Will check it out later today. Looks like we are nearing the home stretch though.

me and my friend both downloaded this most recent multiplayer one (feb19) and when we set it up, we had invisible things. the adamant hammers were invis, facets, sammy charms, my trangs armor was invis, few other things were invisible also. some of the stuff worked like the thunder maul and my trang gloves and gheed gc. i only checked the one char i joined a game on to see if it was working so i dont know exactly what all was invisible but those are just a couple of the things i can remember. i read through all the posts to see if there was a fix but didn't see anything. :-/

you are adding a space before the -direct -txt right?

Eg.
C:\Program Files\Diablo II\DiabloII.exe -direct -txt

Make sure you add the space first.

no no, -direct -txt means nothing on plugy. Open plugy.ini and make sure you have this:

[LAUNCHING]
Param= -direct -txt
Library=PlugY.dll

and dunno if you added
[GENERAL]
ActivePlugin=1
ActiveLogFile=0
DllToLoad=d2mod.dll

Really awesome stuff Blue, would love to see more replacements and things. I think too many mods leave item gfx alone. Could you possibly give info on what you use to edit the item images and things like that? I'd like to toy with this myself.

1. Photoshop to build the images - I then save them as GIF files.
2. DC6 Creator.exe to convert the GIF to a DC6 file. The big secret it to choose the "units" palette, that makes them look nice in all acts.

You can find the dc6 editor here: http://phrozenkeep.hugelaser.com/forum/ ... =2&t=49628

The Dc6 editor will also convert existing dc6 files to gif. That is generally a good starting point. For example, when making the Sacred armor, the first thing I did was convert the Ancient Armor DC6 file to a GIF and use that as a starting point to build sacred. That gave it a "similar, but different" look from Ancient.

I love it. Thanks very much for sharing. Maybe this'll break my OCD habit of trying to match up rings, usually to the detriment of my builds.

A tiny suggestion, though, if I may; while the installation was so simple, even my dog could do it with enough pavlovian conditioning, it could be even simpler. You could pack two separate folders, Items and Excel, into a zip file so that we'd automatically get a new Items folder and also the text files would automatically go into the Excel folder. At least I think that's how it works. But whatever, I got my new item graphics and I'm grateful for them however they came :D

Hey Blue,

I was wondering if you've made any progress on the single player version of the item pack? Last I checked you were going to investigate some of the differences between single and multi. As it stands, sockets and glyphs do not look any different.

If you're finished/tired of working on it, let me know and I will tip my hat in appreciation :D

Tracked down and fixed the singleplayer issue with glyphs and sockets. New download available with Mar28 date.

I built the Mar28 download with Excel and items folders built in, lets see if that makes for easier install.

I have been stuck on a couple items lately so I haven't made much progress. Maybe I will get some more out though.

Awesome Blue, works perfectly - I just extracted the folders into my existing Global folder and it worked great. Glyphs and sockets are now distinguishable :)

Thank you for taking care of that, I appreciate it.

Is there any way to run windowed mode (d2loader) with these graphic updates??? When I run the HU.bat file with -direct -txt everything works fine, but HU.bat does not seem to recognize -w.

run from a shortcut of loader. The loader can be found in the tech support forum in the "Downloaded disks from Blizzard" thread.

make a shortcut of the loader and right click it. Go to properties and at the end of the "Target line" add -direct -txt -w

Thanks, I guess the "newloader" actually is an updated version? My d2loader does not recognize the edits.

wierd. You started with HU.bat and you had the -w on the loader target line?

You could try opening direct from the loader shortcut ith the old loader unless this the new one alredy works.

I assume it is fixed now for you? I know the windowed version certainly works as that is how I run the game.

Yes, using the "newloader" linked in tech support got it working. Just deleted my old d2loader. Might want to include that in your original install instructions as well as bumping the warning (to close d2) above the install instructions.

I was wondering how compatible this item pack was with single player. I belive that you have to have the 1.21z patch installed, right? The only problem with that patch is that there doesn't seem to be a solo edition only version, and that patch creates the Global directory.

The 1.21 full solo install doesn't create a Global directory. I did get the item pack to work after installing 1.21z, but that patch removed or altered many of the solo edition features.

Is there a way to install the item pack without having to use the 1.21z mini-patch? Or is there a version of 1.21z solely for single player, that adds the Global directory?

If not, I am wondering if it would help to just create one.

you should be able to download the version I have marked as single player and change your shortcut to read -direct -txt and it will work with any version of HU. Just have to make sure you have the folders correctly setup (see the screenshot I included)

Got it to work perfectly, thanks to your help, and was able to modify the misc.txt file as needed (concering town portal scrolls). The new item images are quite helpful (especially the different socket colours), and they look excellent as well.

Is there any chance of you expanding on this to improve the images of more items? It would be interesting if more uniques had different images (as quite a few use the default item images), but I know that will take a lot of time and effort to do.

Um. I installed the version of Hell Unleashed on the homepage (http://critterkiller.arimyth.com/) And this update came out in December. I installed the game last month, so I ASSUME I have the right version, but I'm not seeing the "Data" folder. I asked people I was in the game with if this is v1.21, and they said 1.21z, so I guess i have 1.21z installed (I don't think one of a lower version can be in the same game with one with a higher version) Please help? I see despair instead of decay, so Idk.

You can make the directories manually.

<diablodir>\Data\Global\Excel (*.txt here)
<diablodir>\Data\Global\items (*.dc6 here)

Ok, I cannot find the folder "Excel"
I know quite a bit about comps and what not, so I know where to look, so I would like to avoid any troubleshooting. The Excel, or data folder, whichever it's called is not in my directory anywhere.

I did a complete search for a "Data" folder, and this is what I got:

Image

None of the folders are rooted in the C:/Diablo Hell Unleashed folder.
Should I completely reinstall and try again? If so, which installation should I download? I downloaded the one from the main page:

Please tell me what I need to do. If you can't get ahold of me here, wisp me in game (/m *Tony)

Thanks in advanced
-Tony

Also, when you said all the gems will look the same, wouldn't that make it harder to identify them? :S Or am I not understanding correctly. Ahhh!!!

The data folder doesn't exist by default, but you can create the directories manually :

1. Browse with your explorer to the directory where you installed HU.
2. In that directory, rightmouseclick and make a new directory called "Data".
3. Go to this newly made folder and rightmouseclick again to make a new directory called "Global".
4. Go to newly made folder "Global" and make 2 directories here, 1 called "Excel" and 1 called "items".

5. Put the files in the appropriate folder :
<diablodir>\Data\Global\Excel (*.txt here)
<diablodir>\Data\Global\items (*.dc6 here)

No need to reinstall, just make a few directories ;)

Ah yes, one would only have to read through 10 pages to know that.
Why not change the first post?

no you only need to look at the announcements on this forum and you see the 1.21z thread containing the update. This thread has nothing to do with the update, they are 2 seperate things.

Looks really cool blue. I've heard of people combining aspects from various diablo items together to get new items but never actually tried doing it myself. I'm guessing your using photoshop? I was only cusious because as of lately i find myself too lazy to let it load since GIMP loads much faster lol.

Anyways it looks great! Looking forward to using them! =)
