A few patches ago the Iron Golem was an excellent source of damage vs melee attackers. The 90% amp + 5k thorns from a high lvl IG was one of the few "tricks" the necro had up his sleeve vs high damage melee attackers.

What happened?

I remember a lvl 30 IG had just over 3k thorns, which may have been a LITTLE over powered...JUST A LITTLE. Then their thorns was cut in half. This was an effective way to keep the IG from soloing those high damage melee attackers( Duriel comes to mind). Just because this was possible with IG + amp, doesn't mean is was ez, or fast, this was a long and often intense battle or casting IG, amp, decrep, maybe some blades to solo dury down, BO was manditory, oak was nice.

In the latest patch, amp was severely nerfed, thus nerfing the IG in the processes. Why was he hit with the double wammy by having his thorns nerfed yet again? Except this time, his thorns took MASSIVE hit. A lvl 20 IG has UNDER 1k thorns.

Is there fear of the mighty IG soloing the game? Should 20 skill points render less thorns than a single soul skull or soulmancers boots? I believe even suicide branch has 3k thorns on it.

that's a shame - the high thorns value was a really nice feature of the golem.

Last ladder my iron golem had like 1400 thorns, he was maxed so 50lvl.

if PureRage didn't change it, must have been a change that Soulmancer implemented in a previous patch.

IG was nerfed at least a couple patches ago. I believe Terry nerfed it because he got wind of it doing some bosses solo. Which was a bit silly seeing around that time there was a great deal of good solo boss killers to choose from who put IG to shame.

Has anyone messed around with thorns+summons yet? I just did Hell Andy using SoB from wisp(only 860% thorns) with necro summons/IG. At least I'm 90% sure that's where the damage was coming from, as my other party members were a rabies, healer, and all mercs were dead. I just found it odd how well it did after hearing all the talk about Hell bosses physical immune barely being broken from amp.

i used IG, wisp + amp to kill hell andy with my golemancer last patch. It's still pretty effective.

This was purerages goto it would be boosted if anything if left up to him, like blue and his rabies druid.

Yes, thorns belt + maxed amp + sob from mgrid, leo runs(with shamans around 10 hits and he's dead), sarina runs, etc, juggi dies fast too if I need tome. Sob 22 lvl from mgrid is like 1300% and thorn belt (holy craft) around 500%, could use that shield +20oskills tho.

If bosses have +50% item and base 60%phys res then maxed amp can lower even base value. IE Sarina if she's not amped she's immune to phys(or I had bad luck), when amped she dies far too easy from thorns - but she hits hard too, she hit my maul dru on nm for 2k dmg.

How about thorn druids, paladins, etc? I wonder if sob druid could do some damage with 26% amp on hell, maybe I'll roll one soon.

how good is thorns aura on the belt, since you get lvl 25 SoB off metalgrid, imo maxing thorns on a paladin would be stronger, or use that uniq shield blade barrier thing with +20 thorns

i always wanted to do a thorns druid tbh but never got round to it, with maxed sob + fast castble dires + the unique blade barrier, the returned damage should be pretty epic from bosses. vs trash, not so much.

Its so effectve vs andy since she often procs decrep on the suon so the 8* damage gets a real boost.
