Note: This is for on old version and has been discontinued until I have time to make the whole updating process easier for everyone.

HULaunch can be used to configure HU clientside edits, and to download and setup the correct mod packages whenever there is an update. It can also be used to launch the game, multiple times if required, with each window having it's own unique settings.

Install instructions:
Non D2SE:

Extract the base to your HU folder and run D2Launch.exe
Click the button in the top right corner when running for the first time, or when installing a HULaunch update and delete and Data folder if your HU folder!


D2SE
Extract the base to your HU folder inside your MODS directory and start D2SE. Highlight HU and click the CONFIGURE MOD button to set everything up for D2SE and open HULaunch.
Click the button in the top right corner when running for the first time, or when installing a HULaunch update

How to HULaunch:
Check boxes:
D2SE User: Tick if you are using D2SE BEFORE configuring anything else
Text Edits: If ticked, will enable the text edits listed below
D2Client Edits: If ticked, will enable the D2Client edits below
D2Gfx Edits: If ticked,will enable the D2Gfx edits below
No Sound: Enable/disable sound
Windowed: Open game in windowed mode
LITE: Tells HU launch what package you are using, or want to download. On for Lite, off for Full

Buttons:
Config (Top Right): Checks if there are more up to date HU launch files ready to set up. Click this whenever you download a HULaunch update!
Update Core: Downloads the most up to date core,(looks at D2SE checkbox to see what core is needed)
Update MOD: Downloads most up to patch (checks LITE check box to see what version to download)
Database: Opens most up to date HU item list
Update Edits: Used to update clientside edits.Only if more up todate edits are available
D2ModSetup: runs D2ModSetup
Launch Hell Unleashed: Launch the game with the desired settings

0.0.3:
1: Finished GUI, added better buttons.
2: Added new version checker button that searches the patch directory for a HULaunch folder. If one is found, it will remove all edits, revert to default settings and overwrite any out of date files with the ones found in the Patch directory, then clear the patch directory and relaunch HULaunch.
3: Added new text file to the func folder that tells HULoad the path of the image file for the new buttons.
4: Removed some old code that was pointing to the wrong path for Diablo II.exe (Fixes the Launch Game button)
5: Added D2ModSetup button. If the game starts in 800x600, you just need to exit and click this button then relaunch the game. Only required after fully installing/uninstalling all edits

move the data folder into the hell unleashed folder for d2se. When you start d2se and select HU, make sure the -direct and -txt boxes (bottom right of the screen) are checked.

static animation removed - good
plague jav expanding cloud removed - good
lightningwall released bolts removed - baals 1st minions??
glasyas fire/cold mass explosion had its cold explosions removed - good
siege beists screenshake removed - really good
all fire size reduced to small - good
assassins fireblast made more funky looking - still need to test
catapults attacks removed - now I get hit from invisible things :(

all skills vailable on left click too btw.

I'll make another set another day with the catapults missiles back in. I've only just got home tonight and I wanna spend a little time playing to relax now.

I see an issue with running in -direct -txt mode. for some reason, when I do, it starts using the old skill desc, etc. etc.

All the new item images stop working too. I tried extracting every file from the mpq too but running in -direct -txt mode is making act 1 mercs show up and stuff (even though I'm using files from the new patch). if I run it without the -direct switch all is fine. I'm not sure what the issue is, but I'll get back to you on it.

Updated with a set tht leave the catapults in.

I also removed the cloud from prime poison nova (defilers spam it in wsk) and the deris from hurricane.

there are also string files included that fix the uniques showing us as "An Evil Force"

Bcos in MPQ there are only new BINs and old TXT so using -txt creates new bins for you from mpq :-) just run -direct and update rar/zip file with BINs only.

no, all new files are in the mpq. I run in -direct -txt mode just fine with no issues. It caused problems before becuase blue accidentaly made a typo when packing the patch. Thats why it was reading the old bins. All the .txts are in the mpq though.

i use d2se and have no data folder, i extracted the HU files into the 1.10f main folder of d2se, how may i use these? then i use d2se to run.

when the plague jav hits an enemy, it creates an expanding cloud of poison. That has been removed, (it is still there, you just dont see the animation)

Blinky99, move the data folder into your Hell Unleashed folder for D2SE. When you start D2SE and select HU, beforeyou start the game, lookat the bottom right of the D2SE window for 2 little boxes. One for -direct and one for -txt. Activate them both and start the game and they will work.

thats just it i dont have a HU folder in D2se i moved the files[HU] into the 1.10f folder, start d2se from desktop then choose 1.10f to play and it starts HU. i dont select HU from d2se, just 1.10f. i really dont know what i did lol

ooh, you set it up wrong. You dont actually move the mod files into the existing files folders.

When you downloaded D2SE, you get a couple of folders in the download. One is D2SE and another is called MODS.

The mod files go into a folder inside the MODS folder along with a .ini file that tells d2se what set of base files to use etc.

Here are some pics/ step by step instructions and I'll attatch the .ini file and the button that need to go into MODS/Hell Unleashed.

1: locate the MODS folder, (should be in the same folder as the D2SE folder)

2: create a folder inside the MODS folder called "Hell Unleashed"
Image

3: Move all the mod files into the hell unleashed folder and the 2 files in the attatchment below too.

4: Start D2SE and the Hell Unleashed button should be there.

is it possible easy to color full juvs purple? Would make life easier for a horker. Normal juvs can stay as they are, but the full would be neat to be highlighted.

Also - when you get a minute, shoot me a trimmed down version of this that just has the unique names fixed, I would like to see if we can fix that server side with duff to prevent the Evil Force stuff

no need for a server side fix, it just needs packed into the client version. I can color the full juvs np yeh. I need to recolor Jah anyway, seems i missed it.

well you can't, all names are read from your files(client side), you can easily fix all skills.txt errors server side w/o any client side updates

rage thank you very much i now have the HU icon in d2se when i start, i do not have a data folder though under diabloII /mods/hell unleashed so where do i put the edits?

I also tried running d2modsetup from the new hell unleashed folder and said cannot do while diablo II is running, but i wasnt running the game if that has anything to do with it

Do i just make a "data" folder in the hell unleashed and extract the client side edits>?

Would it be ok to add shorter names of most common items, wouldn't be like "cheating" because you could see more than anyone - well tbh I can't remember how many times ppl started swear because they couldn't get item due to screenshake which is removed with these changes.

Ahh, I've always wished for shorter pot names. Who cares about 'Rejuvenation Potion' (blocking half the screen) when it could simply say 'Rejuv'? Perhaps the 'gold' could be removed too. So '1337 Gold' would become simply '1337'.

By the way, still epic work. Thanks for these edits, Pure.

any way to make ultra and mega pots stack able in the belt with supers and such thats a pain in the ass[ as in when you pick them up they go in ur belt not ur inventory despite what kind of pot it is] also when you buy antidote pots they go into your belt not your inventory

Hi I cant see meteors flames, and i think i followed instructions right, btw im using glide wrapper(idk if it can mess the meteor display up) and im running -direct -txt -w -skiptobnet, just downloaded the last version, mkII, the 16th of january. any hint on how to work this out? Thanks

hmm, the mkII ones should work, its just the folder from my HU directory zipped up. Delete the dat folder completely and re download the mkII ones. You maybe have some old .bin files

right click on the loader and go to properties. in the "target" section add -direct -txt at the end, outside of the quotations. if you want window mode add -w

Sounds good. Perhaps removing the 'Gold' part from the gold drops would be nice as well. This way, only a number would be shown. Lots of space.

Don't forget about antidotes and such. On my files I simply left G from Gold, random numbers on screen scary me.

I don't use d2se and I would like to use these edits if possible.
I've tried adding -direct -txt to the target field of the d2loader shortcut with no success. After extracting the fix I copied the data folder into my "C:\Program Files\Diablo II" directory. I did not have an existing data folder before trying this.

make sure there is a space between the -direct -txt and the end of the existing target line. Mine looks like this:

"C:\Users\Admin09\Desktop\diablo stuff\D2SE\Diablo II.exe" -direct -txt -w -title "Diablo II"

I dunno that going with HP/MP was the right call as they look awful similar. I think that maybe going HP and Mana might have been better to make them easier to on the eye.

Or Heal/Mana. Just my thoughts though

Very nice work. Most of the edits work for me, but I am also having trouble with meteor. I can't see any of the flames. What did you do to fix this? I have tried deleting the data file and replacing. I have also tried with both downloads, with catapult missles and without missles. Any ideas?

thawing potions names arent changed
and some throwing pots too, btw throwing potions only named anthrax or gas looks a bit weird, why not call them anthrax pot or gas pot or so..

btw i think heal/mana would look way better than HP/MP

think I'll make a new D2SE Plugin when/if you change this

wasn't there some adjustment a while ago that allowed you to move skills to the left click that are normally locked to right click?

For example - having the ability to run meteor on left click.

Is this something we should simply incorporate in to the standard game files next season? Seems pretty handy.

Thank you for the edits you've made, but a question comes to mind when I see the colour of the runes Ko-? How can I give these items another colour, cause I would like to keep most of the changes you made in those files. (i'm colourblind and this colour looks very much the same as the colour of a magical item)

all skills on left rocks, my necro has lr on left click, its really nice to play now...

I don't know if i'm following this the right way, but when i dl this patch, it messes up my char screen and makes everything say "an evil force" and i get no skills on my left click, and everything goes back, no more purple rejuvs, ect ect... plz help.

thats the char screen edit, if you want both you need to dl this one first, then dl the char screen one.

if the left click skills etc aint working you are deleting the skills.txt and missiles.txt. Delete all bin files from the excel folder (data/global/excel). then extract the missiles and skills.txt from the one in this topic and move those to the excel folder (data/global/excel)

don't delete the d2newstats.txt when clearing all the .bin files.

I got OSkill prayer from an item, but I don't see that skill on my left click tab.
I do see most if not all the other skill on the left click tab.

swapping auras from right to left not possible at all?

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've extracted the "local" folder. I placed it inside the HU folder, but nothing has changed.

I'm using Win 7 and the New Loader with -direct -txt.

I don't have a data folder... I created one in the HU folder to give it a shot, but no luck.

Inside Diablo 2 there is only one folder, 'Save'. Inside 'save' is 'HU'. Inside that is just more files.

what is your language version?

open data/local/lng and change the ENG folder to the 3 letter code for your country. Ie. german = DEU

you only need the data foilder for client updates, just create a folder called data inside your hu folder

no, not in the save folder, it goes in your hell unleashed folder. If HU is installed in Diablo 2 folder, it goes in that folder.

Assuming you extracted HU files to your Diablo 2 folder:

Diablo 2\data\local\

hey Lee I had the same problem getting it to work on my other comp just the other day. I fixed it by right clicking on the shortcut to the loader, and after the target text adding

" -direct -text"

how can I get the catapult changes to work on the new version of hu? I mean things were changed on missiles and shit(because of the high res thing) so I'm guessing that just geting this version of missiles and skills might fuck shit up or?

Was trying to use the rage edits to remove some lag issues and not string edits. 3rd link on first page.

Ok... I just examined the 3rd and bottom link. Inside the data folder there's 2 sub folders. One is the global folder containing the edits you want to apply to remove graphics lag. The other folder which is the local folder contains a bunch of tbl files which will ruin the extended stat screen if applied.

I'd like to report a bug with the High res mod, which happens when playing in full-screen. If you select 1280x768 with a 16x10 monitor (mine is a samsung T240, 1920x1200) you get a black screen. Meanwhile, the smaller resolution 1024x768 works flawlessly. I found if I set my monitors native resolution to 16:9 (1920x1080) I see everything flawlessly (and even set the monitor to disable scaling so there is no stretching but black bars). It's just something thats a little tedious and could probably be fixed from the developer Pov.

Found more problems with skeleton archers damage display:
added synergy to description
added some description stuff so you know that skeleton archers arrow level is = skele mastery level.
Moved the damage description for the arrow damage to mastery, because its easier to do it that way.
a few other minor changes to descriptions.

Please redownload if you have an older version (from before 28th of june)

Bump! 1 final set of changes, mostly client bug fixes to get rid of masses and masses of log errors from certain missiles, a final adjustment to sele archers (the last archer display edits didn't go in, my mistake).

Launcher now has a Mod Info section you can use to open locally stored fully updated item pages for 1.41. All info is correct and broken up into the right sections/links etc.

Working on building a front end GUI so you can just run it, tick some check boxes to enable what edits you want then launch the game. Also laying down framework for a full HU install section so you can install the mod correctly without errors with 1 button + keep your original D2 files backed up. That's a good way off yet though.

Link updated, (same link for D2SE and nond2se). Any other updates will be a lot smaller as the majority of the size is from the item files.

item skill bonuses is because the chains for some classes skills have been broken.
In sills.txt, all classes need too have all 30 skills grouped together in a single block. The "staffmods" effect items get read from the first skill for the class until the next sill line for another class
example:
sorc1
sorc2
sorc3
sorc4
sorc5
*BLANK LINE OR SKILL THAT HAS BEEN CLONED AND MOVED TO A NEW LINE*
sorc6
sorc7
sorc8
barb1
barb2
barb3
barb4
etc.
would have the empty line (example, original amp and lifetap for necro) show up as a skill on any item with sorc "stafmods" (staves) but because it's not an actual class skill, it simply shows up as +1 XXX skill, like an oskill but you can't use it.

This isn't something that can be fixed clientside. The fix is to clone every single skill and move them to new lines (to avoid hardcoded lines monsters use for some skills) placing them in order, 1-30 for each class. Needs a serverside update and someone who can face cloning 240 skills + adust every item, set, unique, rw, proc etc. with +X to a skill, or oskill or aura on equip to point to the new lines.


Inferno: I wasn't aware of anything being wrong with inferno. I don't have a sorc. That's why I said to leave suggestions in the OP. What's wrong with it? (can't check atm I'm not at home)

I'm having issues with the last update.
Ever since I updated, I'm getting constant crashes when I try to load the game.

The problem is the health display. Sometimes reinstalling will make it work temporarily then it'll start crashing again, but most of the time it just crashes.

Any way to fix that? (Using D2se)

(Unhandled Exception: Priv_Instruction (c0000096) and then it changes to
(Unhandled Exception: Access_Violation (c0000005)

If you uninstall the d2client does it work?

If yes, try restarting the system, might be a relocation issue with d2client

If I remove the edits the game stops crashing. If I mess around and somehow manages to make it working, and I close the game, it'll start crashing again when I start it again and try to join a game.

Also got a new error Unhandled exception:
Single_Step(80000004)

What edits? The "Data" or "D2client"? Uninstall D2Client and leave the "Data" installed. Do you crash like that?

The text edits work without any issues.
The D2 Client (The health display) is what is causing the crash, which is what I said in my post.

If I reinstall the entire HU mod I can manage to make it work temporarily/for 1-2 games then it start crashing again.

This wasn't happening before the last update, a few days ago.

did you try restarting the system? Uploading a mini update now (including a fix for blessed aim that wasn't included in the last one. Give that a try. Restart the system first though, it might be a relocation problem with the .dll

Not a clientside issue, I already explained the cause a few posts back. It's not something you can fix with a clientside edit,and it's not something you can fix without permanently destroying all sorceresses already created, so it will have to stay as is until a reset.

Rewrote HULaunch, optimized it and made it an application instead of running on .bats + cmd window. Included inferno description fix (ty Kwikster). See OP for info.

Note: Anyone who was using the old version can delete the HUInstaller folder, it's not used any more.

Ok, 1 final final update (really this time).
I say final update because I moved a lot of the variables to text files so I don't need to edit/recompile the actual program any more.

Changelog:
Rebuilt UI, made much more user friendly and a much better layout
Added Full Mod Install support, but it needs the core and packages packed into .exe's to be fully automated. Currently the Mod install buttons point to the .rars posted in the main patch topic. If you do use this feature, the files will be downloaded to HULaunch/patch. HULoad will open them itself if the mod files are packaged as 7zip .exes in future.

Made huge optimizations to the code side of it. Downloads/Future patch links can be added to the update.txt file in HULaunch/patch. The program reads that text file for each package. So if you have the "LITE" option selected and the D2SE User option unchecked. It will look at the corresponding line in that text file for the links to the correct CORE and client package needed, then download them when you press the button on the GUI.

D2SE users need to make sure they check the D2SE check box before installing edits and using the download functions.


Sooo in theory. For any future patches, the modder just needs to update HULaunch/patch/update.txt with the new links to each package. Even better if the links can stay the same and just set the version number in version.txt. Then you don't need anything but to press 2 buttons to update to the latest version.

Final build linked in the OP. Any other additions will be in small text file packs.

It kind of sucks that this mod is borderline unplayable now alone. Why couldn't the monster strengths be increased more if you have a party and less terrible if you're alone? I don't have time to play all the time with a group but I was able to have fun solo before and now I can't even get out of A1 normal...

Also when I run launcher it doesn't start game. Not a D2SE user, so I leave that box unchecked, tried various settings from interface. Lastly, with it fully installed the game starting in 800x640 res mode even though I have dl'd hi-res patch.

I just skimmed the internal code and found the problem with launching via button, I had it searching the wrong directory for game.exe (a relic left over from previous builds). Thats fixed so ty :D. (I'll link a fix as soon as I get all issues sorted)

By skills on LH do you mean left click skills? Those should be included but i'll double check after. If that's what you mean, are there some skills in particular that need to be set as left clickable?

Not sure about the 800x600. That's really odd. Can you let me know what edits are installed when it's starting in 800x600? Are all the UI elements set up for 800x600 when it happens?

Ok i got all that sorted. Had to add a "Run D2ModSetup" button to the UI, you need to run D2ModSetup after fully installing all edits.

I have a question for anyone who uses glide (Non D2SE users). I ran into a few problems, maybe someone can assist with some info.

1: starting the game with the -w command completely turns glide off. I tried adding a -3dfx command also and still no dice... Any pointers?
2: When I start the game using glide and the windowed option checked in the glide settings, I can't move the window. HALP!

I'll upload the fixes in a few mins. If you are using glide, disable the windowed option on HU launch and it'll default to the glide settings.

Yes, left click skills. Haven't played around with many chars yet, but I do know my necro curses don't show on lh as clickable.

I notice as soon as I click on loader to start, since the launcher wasn't functioning. The easiest way I know hen it's not right is I hear the traditional D2 launch sound and see the old blizz screens. If I remove the launcher and associated items it launches in hi-res. The only edits installed come from launcher, always liked your edits so when possible I use them. It may help to know this was a clean install on a new machine with win8, retired my old XP machines finally.

EDIT: Just logged in, noticed skills on left click. Only Amp so far (still low level) not on left only on right. Can't recall of it ever was on left, haven't played many necros.

As for one, have you tried using the window mode function in glide, might be a workable solution, haven't played windowed yet. Old machine didn't like it.

I see what you mean about not being able to move it. Not sure why either.

Yeh It works if i use the windowed option in the glide settings (need to uncheck the windowed option in HULaunch in that case), but when I do that, I can't move the window :x Happens when launching via HULoad or manually launching via game.exe so I think it's an issue with my settings anyway.

I set up a clean D2 folder and patched it for HU to bugfix everything for non D2SE. I was able to replicate the switch to lowres, and the fix is to close the game and run D2ModSetup because there are some .dll changes.
I added a button for it on the latest launcher build

Going through sills.txt now to add left click to anything I missed. Update coming in ~15 mins.

Edit: will be a bit longer, something came up

Adjusted the UI

Added a configure button used to correctly setup any update ready for installation. If you download an update, you need to click this to reconfigure. If no updated files are detected it does nothing.

Added d2mod button. You may need to run it after installing.uninstalling clientside edits and/or the full mod packages

Fixed the launch button

Updated clientside text edits with some minor stuff

Updated the readme for end user and readme for modders

Updated main link. New version moves everything into a .ini file, so we don't need loads of text files to configure what link is what etc. Not a super important update but grab it when you get the chance.

When you get it. Run HULaunch and click the button in the top right corner to reconfigure.

Yeh its easy, you just download > extract to HU folder, > run HU launch and click the button in the top right to reconfigure.

Link back up, all setup for 1.41d. Delete any existing data folder in your HU folder

Can't seem to make this work with D2SE.

After extraction, D2SE doesn't show a configure mod button, I have to use HUlaunch.exe
Following the instructions, I used the big diablo-ish button in HU launch and it gave me a message. After that, I tried checking the D2SE, Lite, the TXT and the other button which I don't remember the name of for showing hp.

At first it just didn't work. There were "Evil force" everywhere in the skill descriptions,
Then when I tried removing the edits, (all of them), the game crashed on game join.

delete existing data folder before configuring. I'll add a d2se_setup to enable the configure button tomorrow

updated, fixed full version and included d2modsetup. If you are a d2se user and updating the core, you need to extract the core to MODS not your existing HU folder. Patch goes into the new core folder.

HULaunch can be used to configure HU clientside edits, and to download and setup the correct mod packages whenever there is an update. It can also be used to launch the game, multiple times if required, with each window having it's own unique settings.

Install instructions:
Non D2SE:

Extract the base to your HU folder and run D2Launch.exe
Click the button in the top right corner when running for the first time, or when installing a HULaunch update and delete and Data folder if your HU folder!


D2SE
Extract the base to your HU folder inside your MODS directory and start D2SE. Highlight HU and click the CONFIGURE MOD button to set everything up for D2SE and open HULaunch.
Click the button in the top right corner when running for the first time, or when installing a HULaunch update

How to HULaunch:
Check boxes:
D2SE User: Tick if you are using D2SE BEFORE configuring anything else
Text Edits: If ticked, will enable the text edits listed below
D2Client Edits: If ticked, will enable the D2Client edits below
D2Gfx Edits: If ticked,will enable the D2Gfx edits below
No Sound: Enable/disable sound
Windowed: Open game in windowed mode
LITE: Tells HU launch what package you are using, or want to download. On for Lite, off for Full

Buttons:
Config (Top Right): Checks if there are more up to date HU launch files ready to set up. Click this whenever you download a HULaunch update!
Update Core: Downloads the most up to date core,(looks at D2SE checkbox to see what core is needed)
Update MOD: Downloads most up to patch (checks LITE check box to see what version to download)
Database: Opens most up to date HU item list
Update Edits: Used to update clientside edits.Only if more up todate edits are available
D2ModSetup: runs D2ModSetup
Launch Hell Unleashed: Launch the game with the desired settings

Kev did you ever made version of that client side that was working with 1.21z or is the last version working with it ?
