My friends and I are playing through HU over TCP/IP (LAN). We get to act 2, kill Thrack, go in, try to kill duriel and get our asses kicked. We decide to do a couple more tomb/canyon runs to level up a bit. When we return to face duriel (in a different game) again at higher level and better equiped, we kill Thrack for a second time, but no portal spawns.... what gives?

Glitch? Or am I just boned and unable to complete the game because we didn't kill dury the first time?

On a side note - we found the Tome for Cows. Where do we find the other parts?

If you kill him with some form of thorns damage, whether it be on gear, thorns aura, Spirit of barbs, or Iron Maiden, it will not spawn TPs.

thorns damage or a holy ura pulse must have dealt the killing blow to thrack. That stops portals spawning

Thank you so much. Summon Necro is running an act 2 Merc (Thorns) So that's probably what did that. Thanks for the insight. :D Any help with the cows stuff?

most sub bosses drop the parts in each act (except act 4)

These are the easiest areas to farm the cow pieces (there are other bosses that drop them):

Act 1: Mortanius Hellsoul (inner wp)
Act 2: Summoner or Juggernaut
Act 3: General (bridge between upper and trav)
Act 4: None
Act 5: Shenk, White Dragon, or Ancients

Really appreciate it, plan on getting back and killing Thrack for the third time (Hopefully the last, atleast for normal)

Yeah, ask your friend to switch to a might or prayer merc. The thorns aura can only cause problems for you. If you have more trouble with Duriel, just ask away. He isn't too bad as long as you have some DPS and good tank to hold him still.

Yeah. Necro ran into dury's lair first, he and 10 skeletons, 6 mages, 4 swords, and 3 golems all died within about half a second. I was amused.

Yeh, that`ll be due to the 23 counters from minions attacking all at once. Its best to cut summons down to just golems and blades for bosses.

But he's already dumped most of his points in skele/skele mastery... Should I just have him re-roll or something? :/ Kinda sucks that he's a skelemancer with skeles that just die vs a boss.

too many summons cause mass counters that results in them all getting steamrolled. If he drops half the skeles and spams 1 point spirit bladed he should be able to hold bosses abit. Have him make good use of clay golem for the slow effect.

Alright, he was also wondering, do magic item properties on the nec go to the summons/golems? Or do the golems just happen to release a charge bolt when struck or something?

the blood golem is lightning enchanted and releases bolts when struck. The clay golem is cold enchanted and like a cold chanted enemy, releases fnova on death. Same with fire golem making a fire enchanted explosion on death. The iron golem is poison enchanted and poisons all enemys in range (the damages are pretty worthless though)

Skeletons are for tanking trash, not bosses. Don't ever expect them to be up longer than a few seconds for an act boss. That is why he has curse, golems, and spirit blades. Spirit blades are easily spammed on a boss (they will die very fast) to hold him in place and golems have an 8 second cooldown - without life buffs they too will die fast.

Just remember it is a party mod, you'll need a player tank for any difficult boss. The summon necro can help out by taking some heat off with his recastables, but that is the best you can expect from him there.

I'm currently the one tanking, playing a shifter druid. I think he's just getting tired of getting the blades up, and then just sitting there spamming amp dmg. Doesn't seem he's having too much fun being an item with amp charges. :/

Well have him reroll. If he likes necros have him play bone or poison. Bone is strong all through the game and poison is, well, overpowered end game. He'll still be able to cast blades and golems. Don't underestimate the importance of necro curses here though. You guys might be frustrated later in the game without access to them, but you can of course find items with charges of amp, decrepify, or LR. They'll just be low level.

Appreciate all the responses. On a sidenote, I found a cursed ring and one of the purification glyphs. Where do I get the rest, and is it worth it?

It's worth mentioning that skelemancers are pretty pro for everything but act bosses, also at the end of the game you'll destroy things (including hell baal) with your level 90 skeletons + teleport.

Acaste ( Pindleskin substitute ) is, by far, the best way to farm treasure maps. :P
