I think you can press 'M' to mute it. But pressing it again (even while typing) will turn it back again. Just lower the volume on your speakers or something.

Is it possible to turn off the music while you're in D2 but outside a game? like in the chat or something? because the volume on my is really really high and its annoying |

u can also use the -ns in command line but it will kill all game sounds in or out of game |

I just wish that I could hear the music  It's never worked for me on the last few patches.
