I can see how to tweak the firepatch duration of meteor easily enough, but blaze is a puzzle to me.

Is there a simple variable to tweak it?
Obviously reduced duration = fewer stacks = not quite so insane damage.

blaze patch duration is defined in missiles.txt.

Just ctrl + f for blaze. The range column and rangeperlev column control how many frames it lasts.

The state's duration is controled by skills.txt iirc but casting every 15 secs instead of every 30 wont make much of an impact.

most appreciated.

Will be testing out some numbers, but off the top of my head it seems like cutting meteor patch duration down from what I believe it is now (30 seconds) to more like 10-15 seconds would keep its power intact and just balance it. Similar story for blaze, I am ballparking somewhere around 10-20 second duration for it. Will need to spend a little bit of time with it, but thought I would throw out my initial estimates for evaluation.

well an increase in duration of 1 frame per level would keep the numbers more in line.

Is meteor's fire patch duration defined in skills.txt? I thought it was missiles.txt too (thats whare the damage is listed anyway)

ya - duration for meteor is in skills.txt
I agree with adjusting its growth rather than other mods. This allows the skill dmg to scale radically at the top skill tier levels, but prevents that dmg from being applied exponentially with increasing durations as well.
