Hey guys, just got the mod to install completely and I can even open D2. However, every time I try to join or host a game i get this error:

Assertion Failure
Location: D2Common\DATATBLS\datatbls.cpp line#2227
Expression: pbData


Then the red box "We got a big error here :(" pops up

I have the multiplayer version (lite) installed and am starting using the Newloader out of a Diablo II folder on my desktop. All of the files that need to be run as admin are doing so, and the disable visual schemes and desktop thing boxes are checked. I've tried opening with the HUguard up, and I have -direct and -txt in my NewLoader shortcut. Don't really know what else to try at this point.

Oh and I'm running Windows 7 64-bit if that helps. I would really love to fix this without reinstalling, as I've tried that several times before this error occured while trying to get it to install correctly in the first place.

a friend of mine has just installed on windows 7 and had some problems like that too. He used D2SE and that solved it.

I remember a post somewhere saying not to use the program files dir to install HU into, is this the case?

I have it installed onto my desktop, not into program files so that isn't the problem. The D2ModSetup won't work out of program files, but runs fine from the desktop (or anywhere in C that isn't prgrm files.) One strange thing I noticed was I had to edit the d2modsetup file a bit: After my changes it looks like this:

c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe d2mod.dll,D2ModSetup
c:\windows\regedit.exe /s hu.reg
@echo on

I had to remove a period from the front of d2mod.dll for it to run, or else it kept giving me a cannot find file error. I have no idea why you guys included a period there, but it breaks the setup for me unless I remove it and add the system32 location to the rundll and the windows location for regedit.

However, patching down to 1.10 seems to work for me by just copying the 1.10 patch files into my Diablo II directory. When I start the game (or try to) it always asks for a disk, which I use a newloader to fix, and the version in the corner says 1.10.

Edit: Using D2SE to open Diablo II makes it to where it doesn't start with my HU. I looked on the site and Hell Unleashed isn't listed in the list of supported mods, so I don't know the proper way to extract HU into the the mod folder, but I'll try doing it straight of the download from arimyth and see if that works...


2: Didn't work, D2SE isn't finding the mod correctly. Can you explain how exactly he got HU to work with D2SE?

Desktop is heavily restricted to user's permission, just install it outside native windows folders.

Mine is F:\Diablo II but I have 2x total 1.5tb hhds ;( and all works since xp -2007, then win7 - 2009.

So is my problem the fact that it's on the desktop or is it a loader problem? I'll install it into C:\ and see how it goes.

Edit: I downloaded the mod file and extracted into D2SE like the instructions show, but it isn't showing up on the mod list when I start D2SE. It's kind of hard for me to navigate the website for it, since most of it is in german, and most of the questions asked are in German so I'm not finding much.

Oh wow derp, it's at the bottom lol. Trying it out now. Will update.

Ok solved the problem. D2SE install fixed it. Thanks for all the replies guys, was very helpful!

Oh and how do I increase window size? I'm playing on a widescreen and the window I'm playing on is freakin tiny.

when you start with d2se, there is an option on the right hand side that allows you to use glide. I'mnot sure exactly how to change the glide settings to resize the window, maybe someone else can help you with that.
