uninstall...then fresh reinstall of d2...

if that doesnt fix it let me know i'll try and find the way to edit the registry correctly...can't remember way to do it at the moment.

should still be able to select useast etc on bnet...

bnet gateway editor was a file that came with hell unleashed...you can try that...I know you can change the registry entries with that I don't know if it will allow you to delete the entry completely...just cause you can select hu...doesn't men useast and the others won't work...I can do both at the moment.

One thing I do when I want to play mods is to first make a duplicate of the Diablo II directory and do the installation in that directory. There, if and only if I want to play vanilla (I haven't in regards to HU for a while) I can just run in the normal Diablo II directory and select a realm other than "Arimyth Network" (or whatever realm the mod installs). (it's below the Battle.Net button)

EDIT: useful info added

Probably some incomplete/faulty/missing entries in your registry.

If you are going to try this, before you start, make a backup of the registry of the paths you see below (so you can undo any changes which turn out to be less then desired. Start regedit.exe and rightclick a specfic part of the tree and choose export)

After you have ensured you can recreate the current situation, paste the following in a registry file (whateveritsname.reg)
(Doubleclicking a reg file causes the reg file to be merged into your registry)

---------- paste from here ------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Battle.net\Configuration]
"Server List"="exodus.battle.net"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Battle.net\Configuration]
"Diablo II Battle.net gateways"=hex(7):31,00,30,00,30,00,35,00,00,00,30,00,34,\
00,00,00,75,00,73,00,77,00,65,00,73,00,74,00,2e,00,62,00,61,00,74,00,74,00,\

00,74,00,00,00,2d,00,39,00,00,00,41,00,73,00,69,00,61,00,00,00,65,00,75,00,\

00,65,00,74,00,00,00,2d,00,31,00,00,00,45,00,75,00,72,00,6f,00,70,00,65,00,\
00,00,63,00,6c,00,61,00,73,00,73,00,69,00,63,00,62,00,65,00,74,00,61,00,2e,\
00,62,00,61,00,74,00,74,00,6c,00,65,00,2e,00,6e,00,65,00,74,00,00,00,38,00,\
00,00,43,00,6c,00,61,00,73,00,73,00,69,00,63,00,20,00,42,00,65,00,74,00,61,\
00,00,00,00,00
"Server List"="exodus.battle.net"
---------- till here ------------

The first line of the lines to be pasted may be a bit different depending on windows version, but after you've made the backup, you should be able to see what line your windows creates (what version of regedit you're using). I think it's best to alter the first line to match the regedit version on your computer.

Not sure how this heap of text is going to look after I press submit, but the basic idea is to have a look at your registry, these paths :

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Battle.net]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Battle.net]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blizzard Entertainment]
