Post subject:  New here. Some questions

Used to play this like 1-2 years ago and switched over to Median XL. Now i'm back here. =D

I'm just needing about some skill and mercenary advice.

For a summoner druid,
max oak or heart?
A1 Physical merc or A2 Offensive merc?
Oak if i'm using A2 and heart if i'm using A1?

For a wind druid,
A3 cold merc since wind druids need to be in melee range for hurricane to do damage?

These are my chars as of now ^^ i like how normal has been made easier. I quit last time because only certain builds were strong enough to play through single player, and that bored me. I couldn't play interesting builds.

hmmm. i don't have the 'data' folder. i downloaded the latest solo edition like maybe 1-2 weeks ago, so it should be 1.21z. perhaps solo edition doesn't include the data folder. can i just create the folders on my own?

Author:  oZio [ Thu Feb 04, 2010 12:13 am ]
Post subject:  Re: New here. Some questions

yes, however you should have the folders maybe try to rerun the patch.

Oh i forgot to include the 1.21z patch. Realized that I had to include -direct -txt in my PlugY shortcut. What does -direct -txt do anyway??

Also, why does it say that the 1.21z patch doesnt work with solo edition? So should I replace my 1.21 d2mod.ini with the 1.21z d2mod.ini?

Also, what does
'HPTable = 100,100,200,300,375,450,475,500' in D2Mod.ini do?
Because I noticed that its the only change from my 1.21solo edition and 1.21z patch.

I also suddenly can't use scroll of town portal after installing the item patch/1.21z.

It's the factor by which monsters health is multiplied according to the number of players in the game, it was changed because of some sort of abuse a few players were making.

Post subject:  Re: New here. Some questions

okay. apparently 1.21z is only for multiplayer right? because my tp scrolls stop working and monster life suddenly doubles when i install 1.21z. I assume because the data folder and settings is meant for multiplayer.

So, where are the data files for singer player then? Hidden? I just wanna make sure I'm not running multiplayer data files for my single player HU..

Post subject:  Re: New here. Some questions

That's right, the 1.21z patch is only for multiplayer. There's even a note from Mancer beside the link to the patch that states it's not for the solo edition.

You have a choice:
1) Remove the -direct -txt from your startup link, and adjust the HP Table to values you enjoy. This should essentially return you to v1.21.
2) Browse the data text files until you find the spot that disables town portals, and enable them. Browsing the files in Excel or another spreadsheet program is pretty easy, but you should edit them in a simpler program, like Notepad, or download a set of Modder-specific programs to edit the files.

Post subject:  Re: New here. Some questions

okay thanks.

what does -direct -txt do anyway?
I simply change my d2mod.ini back to the 1.21 values, but i'm still using -direct -txt and it works fine in fixing the hp tables to the original values.

I'm surprised Soulmancer allows players to edit the data files for single player. I guess its our choice whether we want to cheat? -.-

Lastly, is it still difficult to find multiplayer games? I quit HU last time because the community around my timezone was non existent. I'm from GMT+8. any players from that timezone?

Post subject:  Re: New here. Some questions

I think -direct -txt just tells the game to pull information from the text files.

While it does allow people to cheat it also makes it a LOT easier to develop new content for the game. No way I could make the new items without being able to edit the game in single player and test. Same thing with the new runewords.

You can check what games are running at anytime by using the realm status page: http://realm.arimyth.com/

It's not like Soulmancer has a choice in the matter for single player. If you just used an mpq extration tool, you'd find that the .mpq files expand to become the data folder. You could have always just expanded the file, edited some stuff, and then compressed it back to a .mpq file and played the game.

When you're playing on the multiplayer servers, you're using the server's versions of the files. The reason it's important that the client-side files match with the server is so that you can see where walls are, and so you're really doing the damage you think you're doing. It's quite easy to edit your FireBolt spell to do a gazillion damage, and it really will if you're playing Single Player, but as soon as you play on the servers, you char screen will show you doing a gazillion damage, but the fallen will still take a few hits to go down.

The concept of playing HU is that Soulmancer had a version of the D2 rules that he likes, and he shared them with us. If we all agree to use his rules, then we get to play together.

Thanks.

I'm just curious. So my single player data files are stored in the .mpq? However, if i copy the multiplayer data folder into my directory, it automatically uses these files over those in the .mpq?

ofcourse he has, just delete all txt files in mpq, game can read only bin (that's what -direct -txt do, search for txt in directory and compile em to bin.)

Hmmm, one more question. Are there any armor runewords that apply to non body armours or shields? Like helms, belts, gloves, boots?

Just socketable items, meaning helms besides those other you mentioned.

P.S. Me and my friends are from GMT -3 so morning plays can match night plays.

P.P.S. Check here for item information http://critterkiller.arimyth.com/

Post subject:  Re: New here. Some questions

Sorry i meant to ask, are there any belt, glove, boot runewords? Because there are a few runewords where the type is just specified as 'armor', and not body armour/shield/helm.

Also, is there anyway to gamble and make white items for making runewords?
Like in another mod i played, there was a recipe to downgrade from magic to white. All my gambles give me magic items, not white items. =(

Post subject:  Re: New here. Some questions

nope - you can't socket boots, gloves, belts in this mod - so no runewords for them.

nope - you just have to go find white items if you want to make runewords for that. Helps to stimulate our economy by providing easy to find items that people can then trade to wealthier folks.

hmmm are sorceress orbs considered staves?

No.

Post subject:  Re: New here. Some questions

Armor = body armor
Sorceress orbs = orbs
Staves = Staves

-----------
you can gamble magic ( blue ), rare ( yellow ), sets ( green ), and uniques ( brown/gold), from more to less chance of getting em.

If you want white items, u must to buy them... or find em killing foes.
