anyone interested in seeing 1.21z, the last version of Soulmancer, go live on the realm? there would be no changes, it would be full of all the bugs/imbalances of the original. the purpose wouldn't be to try to improve upon it, but rather to enjoy the original version in all its glory!

Sure that sounds like a good idea. I'm not sure if that D2SE file for v1.21 is still available, but it isn't hard to make so I could repost it somewhere.

Here's a link to D2SE_Setup.ini for HU v1.21z:
Dropbox link
Internet Archive link

Here's a link to the web pages for HUv1.21z *:
Internet Archive link

* There will be some errors or omissions, e.g. Immortal King's helm says "+1- Barbarian Skills" because that's what the files contain. They're not setup for the web page maker, but about 99% of it worked fine. On the bright side, the version of the program I used for the web pages generated a Hirelings page, which hasn't been available in the past.

If anyone has links to older version of HU (1.21 was like the 20th version or similar), I'd be interested. Especially one of those versions when it was first released around 2005.

that was quick! thanks a bunch brevan. hopefully someone has an earlier version than 1.21x, that seems to be the oldest version available on the download index here.

1.21z seems still here : http://files.arimyth.com/HU/
Older than this I have 1.16 (2006) too.

Edit:
I tried Archive.org but it doesn't work. https://www.dropbox.com/s/af6tfrjstbpst ... L.rar?dl=0

Does 1.21 have high resolution? that would be easy to add if it doesn't, if theres interest. Also things like damage numbers/gold pickup

I think HighRes was first introduced in version 1.3, so none of Soulmancer's versions will include it.

Thanks Tsume, I've downloaded v1.16 and made a test character, was able to level up in BloodMoor, etc. Things seem about right to what I remember so I'm pretty sure the rest will be fine :)
Here are some links if others are interested in trying v1.16 some day:

classic HU will depend on when duff gets back to us and whether or not he's ok with it. for those that do support the idea, leave a post here, it helps a lot to see if there is interest in this happening.

I'm up for one last run. Barbarian hard tank sword&board and a dedicated Paladin healer looking for a party to join reporting in.

PS: Please, no Ensley's lame, user-friendly, hold-your-hand patches this time, thanks in advance.

Okay, sorry, may be my post was a bit too presupposed. What I meant was, your patches are really iffy and more so on the easy side of things. I really don't know what you mean by 'ask someone about Mephisto', since Mephisto has been pain in the ass by default. Either way, I don't want to start a new dispute with you in a thread that has another purpose.

My point being - stay away from HU patches. I do like 1.3b and 1.5(all versions) if this matters at all. And that's all my personal preference and I really do hope what 'personal preference' means. :-)

I would be up for it, but I don't even have discs anymore. Would need 1.10 files. Are these hosted anywhere anymore? They were taken down some time ago.

i want to go with 1.21z to make it as fun as possible for all builds and classes. 1.21z is basically the same as 1.3 except for the heavy handed melee nerfs that were introduced in 1.3 and some silly rw's like the oskill sorceress mastery. i do believe later versions of 1.3 were really good but i think 1.21z was more fun and is what mancer wanted HU to feel like.

slappy if you liked 1.3 you'll love 1.21z!

best part of 1.3 was everyone flaming Blue for murdering melee. Also the 8man naked HC party

The D2SE download we use for 2.1, and 2.5, have all the regular 1.10 files in it. You'd just need to make a new mod folder and put in the 1.21 patch.

I will take a look at the 2.1 links then. Thank you. I am assuming you mean the links here, not the branch of HU.

Edit: and yes, we added Hi Res in 1.3 so it would need to be implemented.

Am honestly not for any of these...and I have made a very extensive sets of loot filters for PoE.

Pious wrote:

I personally think it best that things are put together before bothering him. In the past, that is how things got done. It is a risk, but I don't think he will be very amenable unless the ball is rolling well downhill.

Also, it would be a shame to lose the new area that PureRage made. Havent seen it myself, but I liked the idea a lot. I think that should be added into whatever is done.

Silvermane offered in another thread to host it (even after I was an arse), but I would like to give every effort to keep it here. It would be a serious shame to move it...

I spent way too long trying to remember what my account name was here...

Wanted to add another +1 for classic HU.

I was never super active on the forums or in game cause I was a teenage shitter. Now I'm old and still equally as shitty at this game and would love to relive the soulmancer days. Its been a while since I've seen Pious rip his char early then powerlevel back to 90 like its nothing... Also been a while since I got 1 shot by juggernaut because I tried to imitate a PureRage melee zon build...

I see there is some iteration of the mod still alive and they have a discord. Going to download and fire it up. I also saw Blue's site is still up and seemingly has download links for 1.3 and 1.2a solo, as well as an LOD 1.10 file.

Mostly a reminder for folks keen to play a classic version of HU, you could try TCP/IP games rather than involving the realm. You'd probably need to Forward Ports, and if you don't have someone to play with already, then you could try posting in the Got Game forum. If the port forwarding thing doesn't seem to be working out, then you could try a LAN-emulating service like Hamachi.

It would be neat if the realm were set HU v1.21, but in the past December has been a busy time for Duff, so it's unlikely that we'll get any updates in 2020.

I will have a bit of time in about a week or so to help cobble things together. I don't have access to everything needed, but can help where I can.

Has anyone:
1) definitively confirmed they have all the 1.21z files.
2) added hires to it
3) thought about adding the area the PureRage made to immortalize the vets
4) told 2020 to piss off for good?

I'd be interested in helping. I think 1.3 was the last good update. Then people started changing stuff just for the sake of changing stuff.

There's a couple posts earlier in this thread with links to HUv1.16. HU started around 2005, but on a different forum than this one (arimyth.com started around 2009), and had about 20 versions ending with HUv1.21z. Most people don't have links to those earlier versions, but if you decide to give 1.16 a try, you might want to bring friends because it'll be pretty challenging compared to later versions of HU.

When the community started modding, they turned HUv1.21z to HUv1.3

Yeah, the last version I had before returning was 1.11? 1.12? It was before bosses started absorbing elemental damage. Shame the computer those files were on was bricked, now the oldest I can find is 1.3 full and 1.21 solo, along with a whole lot of new versions that sound little like the mod I remember.

Given how remarkably sensitive certain individuals I won't name have become, I think I will stick with the solo. I recognize a fair number of names though who haven't acted oddly. You, for example.

I also noticed something interesting. I am pretty sure that even in the full versions the client side files are still solo... or at least, the resulting enemies will come out much weaker and easier even if no changes are made.

So the question of why not just host a server yourself? Doesn't work. At least it doesn't offer the intended experience.
