Unfortunately "Acess violation c00005" is a super common error message, so if you're getting it just by starting D2 or by attempting to load a character, then there's not a lot of hints to track down a culprit.
Fortunately, you can usually fix the issue by restarting the computer, give that a go and see if problems magically go away.
If they don't then check out if any of the threads for this issue in the tech support forum have a solution you haven't tried yet.
I'm not familiar with PRIV_INSTRICTION c0000096, and a quick google search didn't uncover advice more useful than "reinstall and good luck"

I had this error on my own. Sadly what Brevan said is correct.
For my a 3rd "install" of D2SE in different location finally worked.
When you download full folder, before extracting make sure to right click it, go to properties and set file as "safe"

I used the ram clear tool that... I believe Mudd posted but I cant recall. Worked for me where no amount of restarting helped.
