 Post subject: Energy Shield Questions

Would Energy shield be a good skill to learn for sorc? Since rubies doesnt increase your health by a % anymore and sapphire does for mana?

How does it also work with armor? Is the dmg taken reduced then the mana takes the hit?

I'm playing on 1.6c and thinking about making a Frost Nova sorc, what would a good build be?

I can't share an opinion about EShield's effectiveness in HUv1.6, but there's a thread in the Strategy and Tactics forum that probably answers your questions about how EShield works with other effects like armor. A lot of that information is valid for any version of HU.

The short answer is that if you can get decent amounts of PDR/MDR, then EShield will effectively amplify those numbers and make your HP immune to most attacks. For every 16 damage sent to mana, you normally lose 32 MP, but a synergy normally reduces this to 12MP.

Does Telekinesis still have synergy with ES? If so, would it be better to level TK > ES?



Is cold mastery worth it because its only 8% increase per level

In HUv1.6c, EShield has no synergy. Your hard points reduce the MP loss. At level 1, you'd lose 34/16MP per damage, and at hard level 18 the damage loss is capped at 8/16. At level 18 EShield would redirect 78% of damage to mana, but your +Skills will increase this up to a cap of 95%. At 80% redirected, if you had 100 flat damage reduced, it would take a hit of 500Dmg just to make you lose 1HP. At 95% redirected, it would take 2000Dmg before you lose 1hp.
2000Dmg with 100 flat DR would cause you to lose 900MP and 0HP.
4000Dmg with 100 flat DR would cause you to lose 1900MP and 100HP.

Masteries and +%SpellDmg mods take effect after synergies, so they become worthwhile only if the synergy bonus would increase your spell by less than the Mastery bonus would. For example, if your spell did 200 damage, and the synergy was 20% while the Mastery was 10%, then each level in the synergy would always increase your damage by 40 while the Mastery's increase will raise from +20 without synergy to +100 when the synergy was maxed. In that example it becomes worthwhile to raise the Synergy and then the Mastery back and forth after you've raised the synergy 5 times because 5 times 20% is 100%, which kind of doubles the Mastery bonus from 10% to 20% so makes it equal to the synergy bonus. I suppose I could share a graph if that helps, but if you already understand then I'll gladly not do that.
