Hey there, everyone! I just had a great dilemma today, as I found my long-awaited infernostride boots, which has the very well sought after -10% fire res for a fire druid, and when I finally pulled it on my feet (I had a silkweave before, just for the +1 all skills), I saw that all of my skill's damages dropped around 200-450dmg points.. I'm at lvl67 at this very moment (in nightmare - no rush), doing the fire tree as it is, having lvl32 firestorm/fissure/etc. with gear and with the help of a barb's Battle Command, having 3433-4561/sec firestorm with silkweave. When I pull on infernoboots, it drops around 3050-4080/sec. So, my question would be: which one's "better"? Some of the skills are pure fire dmg, while two of them having some part of it physical (volcano&boulder -- which is much of a help for immunes, but still, I have a barb for that:)), but I don't know which one helps me more in the long run. Any clearing up in this matter would be a great help. Thanks in advance! |

I was going to redirect you to one of the posts regarding this in the Strategy and Tactics forum, but there were so many posts related to "Pierce" that I narrowed it down to those written by me. Here's a link to post that describes +%Dmg vs -%Res pretty well. In general, -%Res works much better only in later difficulties, and that's because the enemy's resistances are so high that you're only doing a small fraction of your char screen damage (so buffing this number gives only a small fraction of the listed benefit). |

I always knew that D2 is nothing more than a coloured, interactive mathbook, and that has won a demonstration here..  Anyway, it's well beyond my understanding at this point of the night, so I'm gonna read it through again tomorrow, with some caffeine in the sys; still, I can't choose between the two options, as I scanned through the item/rwlist on critter, there's no real setup with both on it. At least now I know I'm gonna cry in hell.. Thx for the reply, Brevan! |
