UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: ACCESS_VIOLATION (c0000005)
This error occurs when a mate tries to join any game in Hells unleashed. He downloaded the full game with the mod installed from the forums. The 1.6c full.
Anyone know how to correct this?
Thanks in advance.

That particular error has many causes, so it's pretty hard to determine a specific one. I don't remember any of them being installation-related, and most of them are temporarily solved by rebooting the computer. One of the theories to explain that error message is that something happened in RAM that dissed D2 (many computer industry standards have changed since D2 was created, perhaps one of the RAM-usage standards gets in the way occasionally).
A common "cause" of the error is talking to Cain when you have things to identify - sometimes you'll crash until you reboot your machine.
I think the "Dark Wood WP" error crashes with that message as well, and I believe a solution is to just visit a different wp first, wait for the "Entering Area X" message to dissapear (this is a critical part of the solution), and then go to Dark Wood.
If rebooting the machine didn't help, then maybe ask your friend to confirm that he's able to make a single-player char (this implies the mod is installed correctly), and that he's able to break TP towers and his new characters start with unspent stat points and a skill point (this would give me a bit more confident that he's not missing a dll file).
You could try reading up on this error in the Tech and Support form, it should be a pretty common topic.
