Post subject:  Patch 2.2

Ensley's server is about to reset after the 3 week test period, likely within' the next hour. The patch has been refined over the test period to be a pretty decent patch in my eyes.

If anyone is interested in playing in the new season the patch is available on the HU discord.

Not sure why the HU discord isn't available, but here's the link: https://discord.gg/FTHTnq

14 second duration on burst of speed and fade... it doesn't even increase with levels? 3 weeks of testing and that wasn't noticed?

I just started playing on the server yesterday and so far I'm having a good time. It's definitely better than 2.1 patch.

Could really use some more folks in the HC community for this server, though.

If you are making an official server with a ladder, then it needs to be branched from Hell Unleashed.

If you advertise it as HU, and people come here to the actual site it will cause confusion.

Post subject:  Hell Unleashed - Oblivion (Ensley's fork)

Hello, I have made a moddb bio page for Ensley's fork, as well as cleaned up the distribution method.

https://www.moddb.com/mods/hell-unleashed-oblivion

As a special courtesy to anyone from this realm that is considering playing on Ensley's realm, I have made the conversion process very simple: download the linked mpq (yes, it supposed to be tiny) and the latest update found on the moddb page above, place them together in a copy of your D2SE HU folder, and you are set.

This is no doubt a giant asshole move on Ensley's part, but the lack of outcry speaks for itself I suppose. If anyone cared I would gladly delete or move these "2.2" threads to a more appropriate forum, but considering the state of the official realm it seems rather pointless.

RIP HU. You had a good run. Even though I haven't enjoyed any patches since basically 1.3f, it will always hold a special place in my heart.

How is that dick move? It's not like I'm trying to defend him, but what I've seen he has put alot of effort and time into modding HU, and all he got as reward was a shittalk and flame in his adress on this forum. Imho it would be worse if he renamed it, it looked like he ripped off other people work with slight number tweaks.
Also, it doesn't look like he's destroying/separating active community, lol, mod is freaking dead. All this bullshit with chars being stuck in a game for weeks makes it pretty unplayable. I'd say all he's trying to do is to keep this mod somewhat alive.
This is how I see it.

I"ve enjoyed all the patches (some maybe not so enjoyable) since 1.3f also and my hope is that the 2.2 will fold back into soulmancer's hu. there should be some locality to this mod.

Duff ignored my message and we do hotfix updates to add/fix stuff without resets more than once a year so it wouldn't work here anyway. I think Duff is just tired of the burden of hosting.

Lol. It has nothing to do with him 'being tired of hosting'. It has to do with how the releases have gone in the past.

It's great that you are hammering away. Throwing shit at Duff like that statement is pretty fucking shitty. Just because you don't like that HU has a longer ladder where the people that have modded for over a decade don't jump to a few others commands. Just stop saying this kind of shit.

I do hope you give a shitload of credit to all that have taken, and now seemingly claimining the space.

I think you are confusing updates with resets. If updates had been possible in the past, we could have fixed things like in 2.0 where Wake of Inferno was able to kill Hell Baal in 10 seconds. The fix for this would have been a 30 second text edit, a 1 minute repack, a 2 minute upload, a 10 second download, and a server restart, for a grand total of maybe 5 minutes worth of work. But instead we were left with a joke of a patch.

Sorry Mraw and I couldn't get patches to be completely perfect with solo testing and zero help from the community. Lazy hosting is why HU has a total of about 15 players. We actually have a patch now that is by far the most balanced in the history of HU because of update tweaks and community feedback but most people who played HU will never know because they turned their backs on the mod years ago due to broken builds and realm instability. This new server was made because my character was stuck in a game for 2 weeks and I wanted a place for my buddies and I to be able to actually play the game.

I do wish the best for it. Stating 'best balance ever, is bold.

I didn't confuse anything. Our opinions differ on how often they should be done, and the amount of reasonable challenge, even to those that know this game better than themselves.

Now, as PureRage said ...

Just FYI, this is no longer a "hotfix" patch. It's an overhaul that requires a reset to implement correctly. Expect to lose a few players as this will be the second time in less than 6 weeks that they've made some progress only to lose it all.

1.6 was released on Sat Jan 09, 2016
That's only 35 days ago.

1.6b was released on 2016-01-31
That's not even 2 weeks ago.

I don't have time to read the entire 1.6c thread but from what I heard, with 1.6c update without a reset, legacy items can still be abused and some builds may change if skills have been adjusted heavily.

On the other hand, if you choose to update with a reset, there will not be another update until the next full patch (which PureRage, Brevan and some others are working on for the next months).

You can read about the 1.6c patch here : viewtopic.php?f=8&t=13892

Thanks.

Don't get me wrong dude, I have loved a lot of the work you've done, but your track record for packaging and releasing patches has been poor on this realm. It's not just the host who was annoyed by the constant resets and hot fixes. New players didn't want to start because they figured there would be another hot fix in 2 weeks that they may as well wait for. Existing players didn't want to continue playing for the same reason + they just got their shit wiped.
You releasing content prior to proper beta testing is NOT the fault of anyone else.

Post subject:  Re: New server up

lot of hate for ensley here. at this very moment he has more love for HU than anyone else here. He wants more content, more balance fixes, more frequent updates. he has put all that in, sometimes making big mistakes, but always willing to try again. yet, the realm format which is totally obsolete now is that we get only 1 chance to roll out a perfect patch or else the pitchforks come out against the modder. its completely senseless, especially when many balance fixes don't require a reset. it blows my mind how such a tiny community has a more poor update system than major games with thousands/millions of players. I tried out his version, and guess what? within about 10 minutes of a broken skill being identified, it was fixed. 10 minutes. on the realm everyone would have to suffer 6+ months to get it fixed. lastly, I see no one else stepping up to produce new content for HU except for ensley. the fact that duff ignored his request to put the patch on the realm basically leaves HU with no update. If any of you want to see this mod continue you'd throw your support behind the only person left willing to make things happen.

Ensley your work is clearly a branch of HU rather than an extension. Unless you can convince Duff otherwise I'm going to continue to move your threads into the Home made modifications forum. I don't understand how you cannot see this as backdooring someone who has hosted HU for nearly a decade. I don't care if your modding is the greatest patch to ever grace us; without the blessing of the host of these forums you need to take your shameless plugging elsewhere.

What is your issue with refusing to call your patch what it is? A branch off of HU. There's no shame in that, it isn't the first time it has happened here, but like I aforementioned it will never be an official update without the support of Duff. So either make nice with the man or quit promoting your patch as some official HU release.

Not sure how long its been since you've checked this but pointing it out before you read the rest of my post.
http://realm.arimyth.com/

I don't think its as clear that 2.2 is a branch as opposed to an extension of HU as you make it out to seem. Ensley's 2.2 is the only public online server at the moment. How can you convince Duff to switch over to 2.2 when he isn't even keeping his server up anymore? Ever since Soulmancer stopped modding this has been a community mod, with different versions and ideas patch to patch while all trying to keep HU what it was when we fell in love with it oh so long ago. When the moderators stop coming around, when the d2gs host and the pvpgn hosts are all afk and not playing, when is it time for the active community to accept a new host? Ensley is not some stranger who saw an inactive mod and wanted to make it his own, hes done patches before and hes been apart of this community for a long time. I ask to let us know how to go about getting the moderators support? Simply relying on Duff to say yay or nay seems like unnecessarily blocking the only active community from advertising/raising awareness to new/old people.

Btw, I'm Silvermane (my discord username) that Ensley mentioned is helping him build onto his patch. I played a lot back in the 2005/6, again in 2010, then started up recently in 2018, not that it matters to this conversation.

Sorry double post, but I thought this is still relevant today as it was 2 years ago. Quote from drrod.

drrod wrote:
Double edged sword my friend. If we were still running a Soulmancer patch the servers would be just as dead after a season, because most of the player base has been there done that. I don't agree with every change or patch but you just gotta roll with it.

I think the biggest issue regarding player base is just as said below:
Mrawskrad wrote:
The reason for less people online these days is because we are all getting older and have real life to attend to.

kramuti wrote:
As mrawskrad mentioned, many of us no longer have the time to dedicate in the way we used to.

I love HU, but I mostly rock single player these days with my own modded 1.21z, because I simply don't have the time to invest like I used to. I've put ridiculous hours into this mod, as most of us have. But can you honestly say if we were just resetting 1.21z or relative would there be a significant player base? Probably not outside of the initial reset season. There's a lot of grass is greener syndrome around here. 1.21z was a good patch, but it was also extremely easy once you got a feel for what worked. With the quality of life changes since 1.21 and the above mentioned additions, I definitely agree going backwards isn't a step in the right direction.

I have nothing but respect for guys like Mraw trying to keep things fresh. Even the "bad" patches are positive, because there's no fucking way people would still be playing 1.21z\1.3 in any significant population. I say keep pushing forward and fuck off with the nostalgia goggles. If you truly want to experience an older Soulmancer patch, maybe gather your friends and host your own older patch through TCP/IP.

It is not HU unless it is here.
Call it whatever you would like, otherwise.
