I don't know if these are possible but here's my suggestions:

Mephisto casts attract/confuse/convert or whatever on you and your summons/mercs there are a few possibilities: either mercs and summons turn against you or friendly fire is activated making you have to be cautious with your attacks.

Diablo casts terror, what else? This would be mainly for mercs and summons, as your character probably can't be controlled.

Baal degrades your items durability on hit, even indestructible ones.

Same kind of thing could work for all bosses but the Prime Evils are more important and relevant.

I really like this idea, adds personality to the game, although I think the degrading weapon may be a bit over the top. This is what made other mmorpg's really fun, to have to deal with your own minions, and even other players who were controlled by the game. Adds a whole new facet to the game.

Yea, this would be nonsense on HC as you would need to kill the merc before the boss.

A1 merc=Everyone dead
A2 merc=Could maybe be done without any "deeds"
A3 merc=Close call
A5 merc=Atleast one dead

Unless you happen to fire at him/her at the same moment he/she converts.

mm....

Mephisto could cast "AoE taunt", so your possible summons/mercs rage to him:
- You'r too late, whahahahhah, my brother has scaped you!
- Oh, you son of a.... We hate you!!!
- Sure thing, so I'm the Lord of Hatred :ugeek:
and you lose some phys dmg and def ( like barb's taunt ). You are not forced to mindlessly attack him , after all... you've the almighty mousebutton! , but you also get the debuffs.

Diablo -> AoE Terror. I agree with that. Everything that's not a player would chicken away .

Baal -> He got the icon of evil spawning curses everywhere and everytime, I think its enough destruction avatar by itself >_<'
