So today I soloed my first Samhain on normal. The downside was that his positioning was half over land and half over the non-walkable terrain when the last hit struck him. When he died the items went poof, like when you kill any flying mobs over lava/water. I think his movement needs to be adjusted somewhat, granted it was my fault for not paying closer attention. I was smiting him and it seemed he was in a decent spot. I guess lesson to be learned is be careful where you get the kill shot at with Samhain.

That's really unfortunate, but congratulations on soloing Samhain. He probably drops some decent things as well as a unique charm, or so I have read.
I have run into that problem with flying mobs, although most of the time my merc is the one who kills them in an inconvenient spot. I find that watching the enemy's health bar, and backing up a bit once they are close to death (or simply leading them to a desirable location, like a corner) will prevent such occurrences from happening.
