If a sorc has a high level enchant skill on, and you're wearing an item that has a ctc a much weaker enchant, will it overwrite your good enchant or will it just not work, noting that you have a more powerful active effect?

It's strictly the highest level. If they are both the same level, I forget which...I assume the first one cast.

Also it looks like Enchant is not reduced for range on a player or an a1 merc. It says it does 1/3 damage for ranged, but I'm getting the full bonus with a bow and so is my merc. Is that supposed to happen?

It's probably simply the LCS (lying character screen). The 1/3 part could have been removed here...I honestly forget.

There are some other intricasies on enchant as well, like when is mastery added that you should probably try to find as well. I would have to go read it again because it has been a long long time since I made an enchantress. Or ask and hope some recalls it.

What I've been able to gather it is the same, but when a sorc applies it to a melee weapon the fire mastery is counted twice. Once in the calculations for enchant damage and once when it hits. (Great for stacking fire damage small charms mastery will apply to these melee).

The discrepancy between the ranged and melee is the extra calculation of the fire mastery for melee. It shows up for ranged but doesn't work.
(Enchant base damage) * (Warmth synergy) * (Fire Mastery at time of enchanting)

(Enchant base damage) * (Warmth synergy) * (Fire Mastery at time of enchanting) * (Fire Mastery at time of striking)

Top is the ranged calculation the bottom is the melee.

Other useful things. The AOE from explosions take enchant as well.

Well my Sorc isn't 36 yet so I don't even have Fire Mastery. So you're saying that my merc and I have fake damage numbers from Enchant while using bows? And it's not actually 1/3 but just isn't using a doubled Fire Mastery bonus?

The damage will appear right until you get fire mastery. Then Melee will hit harder because of the extra application of fire mastery.
