what would be best to go with it.. skeletons, skele mages, DK's, spirit blades or a specific golem?

Tbh I dump what I can on blades but on softcore you don't have to have emm maxed. No matter how safe you play some pub will suicide the shit outta a boss. But hey free pot runner then :lol:

What does max'ing blades even do?

I agree tho golems past clay are pretty useless if you have blades.

instead of insta dying, blades die in .25 sec at bosses or insert absurd time frame here..

At high +skills DK can get like 40k life after BO/oak maybe its more.
same for force golem.

well atleast for farming golems hold trash real well only one i really recast often is clay.

dunno if something changes in the past 2 patches but i used to max blades and with +skill gear they last decent on trash and 1 2 o 3 second per blade on boss enough to keep them distracted, example on hell Dia casting blades lvl 90ish necro not on him because of insta death but on points separated makes diablo run to them 1-2 hits if melee or 2 seconds on the flame waves, and they are 4, so after 1 he runs to the other... so merc do his job easily. i used to max blade and ce... the rest random summon or amp

having made a couple golemancers this ladder, I will say this:
With self oak + self bo
Maxed Fire Golem vs
belial
lazarus
baal fire wave
and all other fire bosses I can't think of, he's practically invincible, and if he dies it is with ample time for recast

Maxed Iron Golem
pwns moloch

1 Pt Blood Golem
de seis
any lite sub boss such as the guy at a2 staff (drawing a blank here)
he never dies

1 Pt Clay Golem
any cold sub boss such as anya dragon
he lives til cooldown np (if he dies)

NOW - I will say for act bosses, max blades are still a must IMO. Only way my golems have lived til cooldown and tanked act bosses are with max bo, max oak, and bolts. Pappy, Imp, and I did andy with IG, dury with IG, meph with 1 pt blood is a bitch, but we did it, and dia with FG. So, golems are able to get the job done, but one little mistake and the tank goes down and things start going haywire, then you gotta switch to blades to pin the boss down, and if they aren't maxed, they die instantly and contain nothing.

<3 golems

not to mention, in tough los portals such as a2 and a5, the fg is always last man standing

EDIT: one more thing I forgot to mention is that my FG was able to hang with a max grizzly when tanking any boss, regardless of element
