So I've spent around 18 million gold so far rolling the eth gmb that I traded for. 95% of the rolls have been under 200% ed, with one 360% and one 414%. Is this just a streak of bad luck or is it common to spend a ton of time trying to roll a good rare?

Same luck here. I have been rolling an eth cc for millions and millions of gold used. One thing I did do was get some wirt jewels and make the edge runeword to make it cheaper to buy.

Update: Finally rolled the eth cc to over 460% with duel leech, (not that my merc needs the mana).

Now that I have settled with a %ed, what helps the damage on this? Is the trick to now find 60% ed jewels, or are max damage jewels better (ie. stun jewels)?

This is total theorycraft without any math to back it up (i dunno the order of calculations) but lets assume the eth col cbow has 170 topend. If you add 100% ed to that, you get another 170. If you had 60% ed to that, you add 170 * .6, so 102 max dmg. That beats out a +30 max jewel i think

My guess is that %ed on a weapon applies directly to the weapon's damage. So 100% ed on a 150 damage weapon sends it to 300 damage, which is then modified by %ed from skills and..... %ed from armor

%ed on armor acts as skill point % damage. So if you have +1000% ed from skills already, then 100% ed on your armor only makes you do 1100%.

Example, using the above numbers. Caveat: I'm not sure this is correct.
I'm also ignoring dex / str bonuses.

You have 1000% enhanced damage from skills and armor. Your weapon is 150 damage.
You do +1500 damage, or 1650 damage.

When you add 100% ed on armor or from skills, you now do +1100%, which brings your total damage up to 1650 + 150 (another 100%), so 1800 damage.

If you added the 100% damage to you weapon though, you would have sent your weapon to 300 damage, and then modified it by your 1000% skills, which would cause you to do 3000 damage.

pretty much right, like he said %ed on weapons is applied to the weapon dmg.

and the str bonus is based on the weapon dmg too, so its massivly more useful than % ed on armour.

as for why +max is better on armour, i have no idea, maybe its applied to the weapon, maybe its just applied before skill dmg, i dont know the math behind it, but ive experimented alot and its defiantly more effective than +%ED on armour.

note RE: +%ED on weapons, green set bonus on the weapon ED acts on the weapon (you even see its dmg go up in inventory) but +%ED from a whole set acts as if it is coming from the armour (albeit far less effective).

Not sure if this link is helpful, but it explains how %ED works with regards to jewels: http://www.mrfixitonline.com/viewtopic.php?t=1238
