Post subject:  Zeal with Holy Freeze build
Hi,

I'm attempting my first Paladin with Zeal and Holy Freeze and I would like some recommendations on how to spend skill points and what gear to use.

Please post if you have some input.

Skills

Max:
Holy Freeze
Conviction
Resist Cold
Blessed Aim
x Zeal
x Holy Shield
It's a lot but the Blessed Aim buff makes it too good to not pump. Distribute the rest of the points into Zeal and Holy Shield as you need.

Gear wise...
CoA or Griffs
War or Templars
Dragon Scale (goes with out saying)
Frost Wind or Valor
Blood Craft Rings or Ele Craft Rings
Waterwalks/IK Boots/Shadow Dancers or Caster Boots
Rends or Cold Gloves or Drainers
Zakarum Ammy/MetalGrid or Ele Craft Ammy +2 Pally
Nos Coil or Imm Flesh

Grab as many life charms as you can to put on him.

Then Left side is a more Tanky Melee orientated setup while the right is a more caster centric set-up. I alternated between the two depending on what I wanted to do. Diamonds are your friend in either set-up and you will need them to even think about zealing a boss (I don't recommend doing it a lot in all honesty you'll want to use charge or veng to attack).

Thanks for a great answer!

Too bad that I've already maxed out zeal... Thought that was the only one that I was sure that I should max :) Oh well, new character then!

Most of the damage is going to come from Holy Freeze and while you won't hit that Zeal Damage shown (It was with OP Valor). Also hitting max Block is a priority I have way too many points into strength in that screenshot (I'm vain and wanted a cryptic sword valor for the sex appeal)

Actually the block boost on holy shield is diminishing returns so it isn't a bad thing to only 1-5 point it once you get +skills really going. Maxing zeal is actually a good idea since it gives AR to actually land your hits with (that and the zeal bug requires you to have really good AR in order to hit well with zeal).

Blessed Aim 5% per point and flat ar outshines % AR all the time.

The passive Blessed aim does NOT grant flat AR. Where are you getting this idea from? It's % AR and % LL for while not being ran as an aura.

He's NOT saying it gives flat AR, he is saying flat AR from charms/equip + blessed aim passive AR covers it.

I'm rolling a Holy Freeze Pala atm too, but I'm also using a bow with "shoots freezing arrows" in 2nd slot for trash...
lots of fun atm.
someone got suggestions for the merc?
I was thinking about a2 healer with beast as I'm melee+ranger..

hm...
may i ask why always when ppl talk about elezealer, they talk about holyfrost?
HolyFire and HolyShock both have more then double the dmg... But Holyfire i usually only see in combination with bows and HolyShock... well seems like this build isnt played in HU. (i had one last season, but stopped him in NM) In Bnet there could be at least few found with Shock.

So whats the reason for Cold? Just the nice crowdcontrol from aura is worth the dmgloss?

The biggest reason is crowd control. HF will slow enemies even if cold immune. The dmg lost is worth it in the end for that reason alone.

Besides if you are stacking slow that extra slow that effects even cold immunes could end up making an enemy over twice as slow. Extra slow starts getting brutally powerful once you start creeping over 67%.
