i had that same thought the other night and was thinking of tweaking the shield to be:

+3 to Defensive Auras (Paladin Only)
Level 16-20 Meditation Aura when Equipped
Resist All +20%
+2-3 to Conviction (Paladin Only)
+2-3 to Fanaticism (Paladin Only)
+2-3 to Prayer (Paladin Only)
+4-5 to Holy Bolt (Paladin Only)
+200 to Life
+200 to Mana
50% Better Chance of Finding Magic Items
Magic Damage Reduced by 15

Nice 42 res shield by the way

*edit - I keep forgetting that Soulmancer changed the +3 offensive from my original design to +3 defensive which gives the ridiculous +8 prayer possible. Adjust it so that it now ends up with a +5-6 prayer possible.*

yep. that was the intent when I designed the runeword. Didn't get implemented that way though and I keep forgetting to change it on blue.arimyth.com

the rational behind having it be offensive auras was to allow more diversity rather than healers that only healed. The problem used to be that you needed to use insight to get the medit aura and that meant a pretty crappy weapon. I introduced the Purity runeword to free up the wpn slot for healers so they could use heavier more powerful weapons and take advantage of using vengeance, zeal, or sacrifice. Their healing would convey through the medit aura and they could choose to run fanat, conviction or whatever other offensive aura struck their fancy.

Opened the build up to more variety.

Things have changed a bit since then though, namely:
1. skillers removed - so players aren't filled with just +defensive aura skills, they now have +pala skills which inherently increases their versatility.
2. medit amulets were introduced
3. I discovered that each source of medit adds a +heal pulse which kinda sucks as it means pure healers will want to stack lots of medit auras on.

some magic pierce on that shield and Hdins could use it. Extra fcr + mana regen from medit could cover lack of fcr when going full SM(152str).

Runewords are a little limited in that you can only have 7 properties.

Fanat or holy bolts? For holy bolts there is a redeemer. Fanat is useless, with +off auras and +skill that dins actually can have high its range is high enough, ias(diminishing return) doesn't really matter, damage gain on fanat to team is low.
Guys may argue on these 2 as
1)Holy bolt is power
2)You don't need put 4 points to get fanat.
Fanat seems better to throw out. Shield without holy bolts could lose it's defensive/support purpose.
+3conviction doesn't even add extra -1res.

i think that hammerdins are fine without this shield.
+conviction/fanat saves TONS of points for healers as they dont have to move down the tree to 1pt them.

Id rather have magic pierce than res all,res are easy end game.

healer is 80 pt build you have 30 points left over or so for convic/fanta if you want them. or to max another skill HS/conc for example.

havent even seen any healer/zealers or who would use fanta over medi/prayer. conviction sure but most would max it i would think
