So, as I am having problems solo with mephisto, I figured why not just download the multiplayer version and start over.

I think I am gonna try to build a melee sorceress. I figure I will be using frozen armor/energy shield/warmth/enchant/hydra/fire mastery. I hope to pump a lot of points into strength and a lot of points into energy. Extra points would eventually be put into thunderstorm and thunderstorm synergies.

My question is, am I going to need to put any points into dexterity? I know enchant gives + attack rating but will my attack rating be high enough to hit late game monsters without points in dexterity?

You will continue to have problems.
Soloing a boss in this mod is very difficult - and more so with the multiplayer version. The single player version is a bit easier and if you are looking to solo, it is probably best to stick with this.

I don't recommend that. A melee sorcress is a novelty build for players with lots of loot, experience and patience. It isn't going to work very well and is really just around in case players want to do something challenging.

For solo 1.21z, I would recommend a WW barbarian or fury druid as probably your best shots. A rabies druid is also a great option for being able to play solo.

A meteor/fireball sorc which will require lots of skill with teleport to kill bosses, but is doable.

Ah, that's too bad. And yeah I know the multiplayer version is harder. But I would largely be playing with other ppl, especially to get help with bosses.

Maybe I will just be druid again or make another lightning sorc.

Anyways can you help me figure out how attack rating works anyways? In solo edition it seemed like my sorc still had like 40% to hit monsters in late a3 despite having 0 pts in dexterity. Maybe was wearing a couple + AR rings tho or something.

AR is basically the same here as it is on b.net

Chance to Hit: 100 * AR / (AR + DR) * 2 * alvl / (alvl + dlvl)

where AR = Attack Rating of Attacker; DR = Defense Rating of Defender; alvl = Level of Attacker; dlvl = Level of Defender.

that sums it up for melee mercs.
Ranged and caster mercs can live through a boss battle, although it isn't always easy. My magic/psn merc survived most cases with my barb's BO, but it was a little difficult to keep him alive. using hotkeys to feed him pots is key.

it is either ctrl-# or shift-#, I can't remember at the moment.

# = 1,2,3,4 or whatever you assigned your potions to be.
