So I have actually never played sins until this last patch. I was curious about bladesins. What builds have people had success with? Which skills besides blade syns to people use? Is their damage magic or is it physical so I know the best way to pierce? Should they tank or stay back?

Well before they got nerfed, I ran a bladesin with a chanter, that demolished everything. There are issues that bladesins have in regards to AR (havent played one in years, so I don't know how much this has changed), thus having a chantress at my side.

Uhm common Bladesins builds would be:
3x Blade skills
Venom
Shadow Master or maybe now, Fade is more important.

Their damage is physical I think now it takes half the damage of your weapons in addition to whatever the base physical damage of the skill. Venom transfers nicely and is in fact ideal for the build, as a lot of the damage you will find comes from Venom.

Ideally you want to stay back, but you should have enough survivability to run up and throw blade sentinels all over the ground for bosses. If you decide to go the Shadow Master route, its an excellent tank, however you should suvive mobs easily with max Fade should you do that instead.

i see 2 builds with bladesins ones that are venom based, and ones that are dedicated bladers.
the only ones ive made are the venom route. for me they tank pretty well but are very gear dependant. dont expect to do high damage
my build this ladder is roughly
1 in every trap tab
20 vemon
20 fade
20 claw mastery
i think 5-7 claw block
rest in shadow master

bladefury damage is based on full weapon damage plus what is add from skill. the character screen displays it wrong but the values from bladefury are added to base weapon so they get moddified by ED and so forth.

thats 100 points, including quests etc thats level 88ish

i tested in single player, you get 112 skill points total if you are lvl 101, 100 skill points from lvls, and 4 skills from each difficulty. i even excluded blade shield and was still missing 1 point to do that build.

Blade display was always bugged so it can be true.

Well, I downloaded Udie2, and made a sin with 20 in all blade skills, 20claw mastery and 500 strength. Then gave her a 1 damage claw. It took 2-3 bladefury's to kill Violent death in a3 norm @ lvl 35. If what you say is true, then she should be doing (claw damage1-1 + Bladefury damage 370-390) * (500 * 2.5 + 220) or am I out in left field here?

ive tried it from swinging on a monster compared to using blade fury. make the weapon with like 500% ed, go into hell and try to hit things and shoot at them, you'll notice a large difference, instead of adding only 500 or so damage, whatever the character screen shows.

so to test, have 2 weapons

1 with 1-2 damage with 500% ed
and another with similar damage as with blade fury from first weapon listed on character screen.

then go swing at a monster with the second claw, and go bladefury with the first one, they wont do similar damage.
