 Post subject: Frenzy-D Swing Barb (Noob alert)

I'm noob and this is my first char in Hell Unleashed:

Planned Skills:

- Combat Skills:

20* Double Swing
1 Double Throw
20 Frenzy
1 Leap
1 Leap Attack

43 total

- Combat Masteries:

20 Sword Mastery
1 Iron Skin
20* Natural Resistance
1 Increased Stamina
1 Increased Speed

43 total

- Warcries:

1 Howl
20 Shout
20 Battle Orders
1 Battle Command

42 total

I don't think that i can have 128 skill points, so I'm trying a way to reduce this. Probably I'll reduce shout to 1 and double swing to the point that it doesn't cost mana. If I get max resistances in Hell without maxed natural resistance, I won't give further points as well, skills are open for suggestion.

Stats:

Strength&Dexterity: Enough for gear
Vitality: Rest
Energy: None

Gear:

- Death Crafted Swords, they roll and i'm a fanboy of them
- Blood Crafted Rings, life leech is good and str bonus is good too.
- Holy Crafted Armor, undeads are pain in the neck and reduced curse duration is good to desynergy with death crafted swords

Rest is open for suggestion, up to here is open for suggestion too.

might want to put some points in increased stamina as it provides a big life boost, unless you are planning on going for pure damage. I'd probably go Iron skin over shout too, but that's just me.

I wouldn't go Death crafts as you already have strong IAS. Safety weapons might be a good call for the MDR/PDR and boost to resists

@blue_myriddn: Thanks for suggestions, but i have a few questions for you:

- Does increased stamina provide a direct life boost as well in HU? I don't remember such a case in diablo 2.
- Are MDR/PDR in safety weapons in % or raw number?
- I looked at both shout and iron skin and shout increases def more than iron skin does in same numbers of skill points. Is there a specific reason of you why you choose iron skin over shout ?

- inc stamina's impact is something that is unique to HU. b.net barbs don't get a life increase.
- raw numbers. full details on crafts can be found in the items section of http://blue.arimyth.com
- don't have to cast it, so it stays with you all the time. I also like that it adds DR as well. Could just be a personal preference though, Shout is probably just as good or better.

Welcome!
With Frenzy barb as my favorite class, I feel I must help you. :]
This is my usual build (maxed in this order):
20 Battle Orders
20 Increased Stamina
20 Frenzy
20 Sword Mastery
1 pointers and the rest of the points into one of the synergies/iron skin.

Increased Stamina (4% hp/level - different than in normal d2) and BO (3% hp/level) are musthaves for every barbarian. I usually put 5 points into Frenzy before maxing BO though, because its speed is meh at the first few levels. You don't need 20 points into Natural Resistance because of the diminishing returns, +skills will increase it to an acceptable level.
Iron Skin could be better than Shout because it gives you PDR, which is very good. Of course, I wouldn't max it over the life buffs.

I don't know the exact mechanics of it, but 2 digit number of MDR/PDR seems very little compared to bone spirit-spear-blessed hammer or d swing-zeal-ww dmg. Again, i compared iron skin and shout in terms of bnet values. If iron skin gives pdr, it's of course more viable than shout.

@shantu: thanks for everything, do you have any suggestions about gears as well?

Hmm gear.. check Blue's site, it has everything on it. If you are going with swords, I would use the two-handed ones because they are suited more for Frenzy barbs.
In armors, search for resists and damage reduction. If you can afford it, socket your helms/armors with diamonds early on to become sturdy. Later on when you have tons of health, rubies might be better.
Having a source of Sanctuary is great too, it makes undead bosses and areas a lot easier (it's even better with Life Tap).

enemys skills are not character skills for the most part. Damage from most trash mobs is around 200 per hit in hell. If you get 100 PDR, and have 50% Damage reduction, you will take 1/4 damage from enemys. MDR is far more powerful as it works on damage over time spells. Most of the enemy spells are a number of small hits very close together.

The game runs at 25 frames per second, If you walk over a fire patch that is doing 2500 damage per second that is 100 damage per frame. MDR is applied every frame so 100 MDR completely negates that 2.5k damage per sec fire patch. Very very powerfull stuff is MDR. There are very few spells that are a single large hit from bosses (mephisto missile and meteor are the ony 2 I can think of).
