Can I just double check the damage type on hammers? Purely magic right?
So -% magic resist works with it? Or is -% magic resists bugged?

Ideally what do you put in hammerdin sockets?

Also, how exactly do you convert a hammerdin into a smiter?

by the way, i'm trying to buy a +3 bh/conc scepter in a3 on a lvl 31 char but it keeps spawning magic scepters. is there any better way to do it? How do you get a low level char to a3? -.-

hammers are magic damage but they ignore undeads and demons magic res.

Scenario1: you have 100% magic pierce gear and go up against a demon boss with 50% magic resist. Rather than magic pierce gear reducing the resistance into negatives, the hammers completely ignore the resistance. You deal the listed damage to the boss + the bonus damage to undead (an extra 50%?)

Scenario2: you have 100% pierce and go up against a non undead/demon boss (sszak) your magic pierce works to full effect dropping her to -50% magic resist.

Scenario3: you go up against a demon with 150% magic res, your hammers completely ignore the resistance and damage as usual

Scenario 4: you go up gainst a non undead/demon boss with 150% magic resist. You cant break the imunity at all so you deal no damage

A hdin becomes a smiter with lots of life charms, war armour, blood craft gloves, gore riders and gris caddy/ holy craft hammer with ber runes in. (use brand javs on switch for amp.

you need to be level 17 in act 3 to spawn white scepters. Most people leech a char through specificaly as a scepter/staff shopper.

so is it worth getting magic% resists on a hdin? considering that most things are undead/demon..

also just a random question for barb. Do elemental mercs work well with barbs? Which works better overall with a ww barb, cold or light merc? which clears trash better?

whats good a3 merc gear? +skills/-%resists/fcr? do they really benefit that much from fcr?

I used ondals with 4x uber rubies (100fcr, 7skills, 100 res, -48fire res)
Templar's might (2skills, fcr, res)
Ele gaze set(+10%fire/10% fire pierce, res, 2skills)
Full Soulmancer's set(+7 all, and other) Dunno if you could do something cheaper, this set is for +skills.
For low lvles go heaven's garb/viper, tarn, magefists, silks, rare fcr rings with res or sojs, lenymo, wpn/shield up to you, craft and sock or use some uniqs like uniq blade (50fcr?)
Edit: Forget Tarn when have access to silks etc, use naj's circlet, sock it with 3 amns for max fcr early, own.

templars is +1
inferno strides, faceted griffs/coa, lavagouts and mancers belt for the extra pierce is better than full mancers for an ele caster.

wizzy is good till you get ondals or uncursed weapon etc.

my barb is still in normal. so he has a 90% chance to hit stuff...

i'm thinking it has to do with the way i WW because i realize that when i WW near the side of the boss, i hit 3-4 times. But when i WW straight through him, i frequently hit 0-1 times.

Arreat Summit is your friend for the basics. A lot of the game mechanics have not changed in HU.

WW is not affected by weapon speed for the first 2 hits, which occur at frame 4 and 8 no matter what. If the enemy is outside of range for those hits, then your weapon speed determines what is the next frame to check for a hit. Perhaps your experiences are due to using WW to travel "through" a boss, thus your 2 free hits happened quickly, and then you're waiting a long time for the WW to end so that you can get it started again. If you traveled a short distance beside the boss, then you got your hits off very quickly, and perhaps started another WW for additional "free" fast hits.

As far as choosing an A3 merc goes, there's plenty of posts, so you should search for details. Lightning mercs don't "waste" as many attacks with unsynergized skills, cold mercs are nice (they use Shiver armor, not FrozenArmor). Either of those two should be fine. Hire those mercs in NM. Poison&Bone mercs are particularly strong and resiliant in Normal. Never hire them after Normal because they "waste" more attacks with unsynergized PNova.

Best way to ww early game is in small bursts in a triangle shape around a boss. You want to ww for as short a time as possible (less than a second) before starting another one. Obviously, mana leech is a must for this kinda fighting but its very effective.

@Zikur: I wasn't too sure. I seemed to observe some trend of hitting more when I WW near the side rather than through the boss. And i remember smth abt a certain way of WWing. So i needed to confirm.

I'll try wwing in a small triangle. Though i find it hard -.-

Hmmm, are fire A3 mercs any good? Which works best for killing spread out mobs in a big open space? WW works well in small areas, but in large areas I'd like a A3 merc that helps to clear trash.

Cold or lightning merc from Nightmare, if you want to clear trash faster. The fire one is too single-target: fire bolt, fire ball, meteor, while the cold one has blizzard and the lightning one has charged bolt/lightning/chain lightning.

Hmmm.. you mean wearing the boots while casting venom boosts venom damage even after you remove the boots?

is there something wrong with crafting.

I've got a mesh boots + adamant hammer + magic jewel + starstone topaz and i cant craft a topaz boots. -.-

yes the buff to venom works for the initial cast, if you left them on it would buff it again too. (it gets a double buff like enchnt on a chantress)
