I'm making a windy druid and must confess I've never played one before. It's a lot of fun just running around with hurricane but as I level up, I'm trying to figure out what are the ideal items to go.

It would seem that #1 priority is +skills and so I've been specifically hunting that type of gear (only lvl 45 or so at the moment).

What would the fully decked out windy look like, end game? Horizon's tornado seems really good, but aldurs set also gives a lot of + skills, so I'm not sure which way to go... thoughts?

Crap. I've been maxing twisters and was going to max tornado next... I also have a lot of points in artic blast since it was my main mode of attack early game.

Is it a character killer to have so many wasted points? currently lvl 55.

No, you will be fine, just work on tornados as your main attack from now (max oak asap though)

Yeah, I have oak maxed, I did that first. Hurricane was what I maxed second, and I have a bunch of points in twisters and artic blast with 1 wasted in WW by mistake at like lvl 2 and I didn't fee like remaking my char

After tornado, what should I put points into? Grizzly?

im not a fan of 1 pointing any wolves or grizz...i went strictly with nado/cane/oak and synergies and i like it...in fact with my mercs conviction aura my cane kills most trash in hell all by itself...your build will be just fine.

what would you socket horizon's with? I'm thinking a simple thul or frost tear might be best, or maybe an ist for some mf%?

a2 hell merc sounds like it would be pretty good... although i'm a little worried about his survivability, but with no grizzly I think I could use a tank of sorts anyways.

ravenlore is apparently really hard to find - is griff's 2nd best choice until then? 30% fcr, +2 skills, max life/mana, 3 sock for amn or bers.

spirit keeper is great for absorbs etc. stick 2 amns in it.

Mine is using kiras at the min for CBF res and max mana/life % and 4 sockets. Only problem with kiras is, it makes your druid look stupid. might be worth rerolling a rare as silent- says for +3 ele skills +3 nado.

hmm which do you think works best with a windy?

a1 merc with ice rw bow (holy freeze aura)
a1 merc with brand rw bow (tons of amp damage)
a2 merc with infinity rw?

I would think a2 merc works better for trash but gets owned by bosses? While a1 mercs can probably last longer vs bosses?

If anything an act 2 merc stays alive longer. a1 are trash killers. You don't need trash killing with a windy. My windy uses a2 merc with brand javelin, and then is stacked with crazy res, sorbs, dr%, life, and life leech.

oo i thought a2 mercs get owned by bosses since mercs take bonus damage from bosses. while a1 mercs stay away from the heat of the battle..

yeh but you can stick a shield on an act 2 merc for easy max dr, fill them up with max res and a ton of life leech and they hold up well. vs sub bosses they convert minions to tank for you too. An act 1 merc will get raped after 1 hit from an act boss usualy

Well all mercs suffer the same boss damage multiplier. The act 1 mercs usually wander around like idiots at times though and also get owned by counters. With the act 2 mercs, you can slap on a nice Spirit ward shield with ruby/topaz/saph for really good res and sorbs. Grab DR% from tyraels/war, and stock up the sockets in your gear for max dr% and res. Grab some extra sorbs, either with a rising sun or just swapping out a sorb ring at a boss. Otherwise the rings are blood crafts for leech and flat life. The brand javelin is just for that... casting amp.

Worst case scenario...if he starts to get owned, you have enigma for tele. Just tele away and pop a juv or 2.

Also, there will be bosses that a merc just cannot keep up with no matter what you do. That is going to happen here and there.

I'd think that a1 mercs dont even die to bosses because they are way too far away to be even hit by counters.. well..

could somebody recommend an ideal late game a2 merc setup?

spirit ward, brand, glassglare/war/tyraels, full mancers and ele set and he should tank well. load any sockets in armor and helm with diamonds. Other setups will work just as well, you want as much absorb dr% and MDR/PDR as you can get on him.

I'm a fan of:

- Spirit Ward with Uber ruby/topaz/sapphire - gives up to 24% of each sorb, gives 110% of each of fire/cold/light res (and 50 poison), also has a CTC level 5 fade when struck, which adds 5% DR and a good chunk (~40 i think) res.
- brand javelin - for amp reasons, also good ias to keep leeching
- tyraels - best mods on a defensive armor, 20% Dr, 50 all res, 10% max life, 10% magic res which is very rare, and 4 sockets to throw 4 uber diamonds in
- COA - 33 res, 10% DR, 3 slots filled with uber diamonds. Kiras can work as well, as it has a 4th socket, but i think the DR% is more important here. You can always fill that 4th socket with a ber to even out the dr%. A blood craft can work here as well...4 sockets with life and leech, slot one with ber for dr% and the rest with diamonds, but that may lack some res you may want.
- rising sun - one thing only... sorbs. A perfect rising sun and a perf ward with the gems i listed above gets the merc 39% of each sorb, 1 under the cap.
- worldstone granite - 10% DR, 1 all skills, 10 res, shockwave to stun when he is mobbed
- shadowdancers - 10% DR
- gloves - i like blood craft gloves here... life, leech, CB
- rings - blood crafts definitely.

My setup gets my merc 50% DR, 35-40% all sorbs, maxed res in hell, 20%+ leech, and a lot of base life from vblood crafts (which gets multiplied a lot by oak sage from your windy, and bo from ondals). Also, the diamonds in armor/helm make him much better off.

thanks!
1) NM mercs have better stats than hell mercs right?
2) isn't BO from a perfect CTA with a +2 skills shield better than using ondals?
3) Since i'm asking about ideal merc setup, anybody got an ideal late game a1 merc setup? Using an a1 merc with a hdin to clear trash. ha.

1) NM mercs have better stats than hell mercs right? - i know in clod a lower level merc leveld up manually got higher stats, not sure if its the same here
2) isn't BO from a perfect CTA with a +2 skills shield better than using ondals? - ondals gives 8 to bo (7all, 1 bo), so all you need is a 5 or 6bo cta to match or beat it... 5bo cta +2 skills shield gives 7 bo BUT cta also gives battle command, which ondals does not. thats 8 to bo. 6bo +2skill =- 8 bo + 1 from battle command = 9 to bo.
3) Since i'm asking about ideal merc setup, anybody got an ideal late game a1 merc setup? Using an a1 merc with a hdin to clear trash. ha. - eth rare colossus xbow and all dext. get a craft holy armor with 4 uber emeralds, craft blood helm or kiras with 4x uber emeralds, razortail, war travs, champ fists
