I was thinking something like
Werebear:20
Feral:20
Shockwave:20
Cyclone Armor 20
Heart of Wolverine 20
and 1 point in Griz

I'm not sure if Cyclone is worth it without synergies, and I'm not 100% sold on wolverine, but the damage boost and extra bear health might make it ok. Thoughts? Also, which merc should I bring? I'm leaning toward A2 healer, since Shockwave gives me plenty of trash clearing, and I don't need an A3 merc for piercing.

1pt griz will die quickly even vs trash unless you have a bunch of +skills, which melee tends to have less of, even with HoW. Griz also has something like an 8 sec cast delay.

Cyclone armor won't save you from the things you want it to save you from. Elemental absorb %, magic damage reduction, damage resistance%, and Physical Damage Reduction (integer) should be prioritized first, though not necessarily in the order mentioned.

I am not quite sure where to put the other 20 pts, as I don't play bears much.

Edit: I played around with a summoner for a bit a few months ago, and a 20 pt griz with HoW is pretty stout. He will still die pretty quickly to bosses, but not always 1shotted. Granted, I did have quite a few +skills.
