atm i'm playing a Pala, going for zeal, but im quite confused about the skilling => holy shield max => how much points into zeal? (atm 5) => can i go for fana? (max) => any points into sacrifice to improve zeal dmg? what would be most effecitve/usefull to skill with remaining points...? i'm kinda "lost" here... - i know i need to have something against IM/phys immune... => vengeance? (with fana) => vengeance and conviction? Anyone of you got some exp. with a Zealer? Advice is very welcome! |

Im is dealt with by using smite/cb. pi are dealt with by other party members and a3 mercs + 1point conviction. |

no, you want to keep your smite damage as low as you possibly can so IM wont hurt. its purely to deal crushing blows. you will need amp to go with it. |

amp damage curse, a weapon with chance to cast amp on switch is always good for this if you dont have a nec to team with |

I was referring to the def-bonus for holy shield from defiance-syn - is that worth 20 points? Is that little dmg/ar increase of zeal worth putting 20 points in it? And: What kind of dmg does fana support? I remember when i once had a Hammerdin, i used hammers + concentration => concentration increases also magic damage => same for fana? or does it only increase phys dmg? i'm pretty sure it doesn't support elemental dmg...? |

fana is phys damage only, but you get the awesome speed boost. It is skill IAS so it is not effected by the deminishing returns of Weapon ias or ias from other equip. All a paladin needs is a point in every aura and a point in smite. If you want to zeal then max zeal and fana. |

I stated mine like that, lvl 40 now, but i got some problems getting enough strength to wear stuff - and my blockrate is kinda crap, even with holy shield...! Should i invest in strength and dex? |

I remember when I played, I always brought my base strength and dex up to around 50 or 60. Sure, leaving it at base works, but it never was essential. I'm not sure how much things have changed since then, but I'm guessing it still won't kill you. Go for it. |

i never found it zealers equip to be all that heavy. Obediance has 30 str on it, 2 blood craft rings, an ameth or 2 in the helm. i got 20 base str on my current smiter and my healer. Healer has over 250 str and 220 dex with equip on and hasnt had many problems. Smiter has 178 str with equip. A few charms and an ameth in the helm is your best bet. Points in vita are buffed by lifebuffs, vita from gems is not so you are better using sockets for str and investing in vita yourself |

Yeah - im only at ending normal difficulty so i got no "end-game-gear". Keeping strength and dex down atm is kinda difficult for me. I allready get strength through charms and equip (mahim..., horadric ring, helmet...). But atm for a Pala with holy shield i block like nothing - cause trouble sometimes when im in the middle of some creatures and don't block. |

You can put the highest level amethysts you can use into your helms and armor to boost your strength much more effectively than sinking valuable stat points into it. You just need enough strength to wear your gear, and if you find something that you truly want to use but cannot get enough strength to equip it, you can always socket a hel rune or jewel of freedom (-20% requirements) temporarily. As for your low block rate, try to find a shield that has a better base block rate and other mods that benefit you (especially resistances). Putting points into Holy Shield will help a lot. Try not to get "in the middle" of groups of monsters, as that will get you killed very quickly in many situations. |

Also, make sure you are walking when you're in a crowded situation - when your character is set to "Run" your defense is set to 0 and your block chance is reduced to 1/3 of its actual value. Unless you're an assassin, who (I believe) retains their block value whether walking or running. This is helpful to keep in mind when you have something on your gear that procs "When Struck" - if you want that stuff to cast, like Frozen Armor on crafted Power armor, take your shield off and run around a pack of monsters. Just not ones that can kill you in 2 hits ![]() |
